It's taken me a long time to come round to joining the "NEW" forum. Ask JJ. I feel I've nothing to contribute.

Thanks Socks. Why do I bother ??

    Cheers Daz, see you Sunday.

    3 Peaks

The circular is a fell race - esp. at this time of year!

    Good luck to everyone.

    Re: White Holme Circular

When an organiser close to me couldn't make the "height" criterion for inclusion in the FRA Calendar I told him to count every large stone on the route and add 4 inches for each one. He made the height, his race got included.

He did not broadcast that fact and there is a bottle of Champagne if any Forumite can identify the race, which is now defunct because of hassle when some people got lost.

Race must have been a real challenge after all!

There will be NO marshals, NO checkpoints, NO refresment stations, NO mile markers. It is a serious Winter challenge. You are on your own.
Looking at the map it seems quite straightforward (in a roundabout way).
From google earth it looks like most of it is on an obvious path.
What surface is it? Should we be wearing fell shoes or not?

Looking forward to this but trying not to get too excited!

Swoop the moorland will be very wet up there, though you're right the paths are pretty distinct. I'd definitely wear fell shoes though.

If i've got anything left in my legs from tomorrow in Heaton Park i'm going to have a jog round as i love it up there. If my legs are shot i'll still be around somwhere giving you a shout.

    See you tomorrow

See you at Heaton Park - only intend jogging round but once the gun goes I'll probably get sucked in.
Will have a chat on the way round if I can catch up with you. At least it's not 7 laps!!

    Re: White Holme Circular

Shall we all just run up and down the first hill a couple of times extra to make the height up? If not with the FRA, where would this race be registered? I doubt it could be a trail race as it's not marked and marshalled with drinks stations and Km markers, but apparently it's not a fell race as it doesn't met a specific criteria. It's a damn sight harder than most of the 'fell' races that I did last year. In fact it's on a par with the Puma Derwentwater race which was bloody hard, and held in harsh conditions on exposed ground - with no kit regulations. Bugger... just remembered, technically that wasn't a fell race either...

A remarkably astute and canny question that Dom?

Perhaps we do need further race categories or existing race categories ammended to accomodate races like this.
