Can't see anyone objecting unless you kick the opposition over a precipice, or attempt to claim you're the winner.
It's not uncommon on U/8 races for parents to encourage their littl'uns round and be there for general safety, tear wiping, bruise kissing, etc.
It might be best to check with Dave W. at registration though. I'd think he'd be sympathetic, the only possible problem I could imagine would be the narrowness of the path in some places, and you'd have to be careful not to baulk any tiddlers trying to get past.
