Round Rotherham 50

Well done all. From my preconceptions of Rotherham I was extrememly surprised by how pleasant the route was. Well organised event and one that I'd certainly consider doing again, preferably in better conditions. Did anyone else get chased by the big cows just after the viaduct?

I'm sure they started us 5seconds past 7am.

I'm sure you have decent recollection of the event. Unlike us, you were almost finished when the really bad weather started...

I reckon those cows were 6am starters and got a bit spooked about your speed in overtaking. I'm sure they had gone a fair bit further along the course when I reached them.

As for starting at 5 secs after 7 (!), I was running at the front with you for the first section, and we lost a lot more than that when we took the first wrong turn along the river bank after 2-3k. My ankles are still cut to pieces from the brambles we were crashing through.

Well done on a marvellous run, regardless of the conditions. 4 secs is a hell of a margin- it's about 2 jelly babies in elapsed time at a checkpoint.

sorry I missed seeing you on Saturday - and that Shirley ate your shoes!!! As I write her mum is tearing up a toilet roll... wish she'd eaten my new shoes - they gave me hell - stupid me for wearing brand new shoes of a type I'd never worn before.

was a fabulous race though - the only bit I remember getting really drained/depressed on was that red clay paddock which I think I wore half of - the rest of the paddocks were ok - didn't seem to collect the mud on them...

Ian - not sure if I've met you but wish I knew who you were on the day as I was dying for some savory food - but have to say what a great event that you can do totally unsupported if you want to. My favourite was the last checkpoint with the sticky ginger cake - and good to see a Santa hat aswell.

might go for a run tonight but still pretty sore - Iain keeps giving me hell - like dropping things so i have to pick them up and walking just a little bit faster than me in public (and faster than me is pretty slow) as I hobble around after him looking pretty wonky - got some pretty funny looks from people at the rest stops on the drive home!!! Serves me right for teasing him after the WWW!!

It is possible, I was at the end of Rother Valley park in silver volvo. There was a group with a dog that had some flapjack and jelly babies. the dog was very keen to have some.

I was also on the course about 8-9 miles further where you came out of a wood to a short road climb before back to the fields.

We had much better weather the day after an the Calder relays.

Next year may be I'll do the 50.

as for canine scoffing - I was considering bringing our dogs for company on some sections if Iain could have made it (he was commited to a football match that was cancelled - he was gutted but ended up driving up to Sheffield to suprise me at the finnish!!) - but on seccond thoughts the checkpoints would have been cleaned out by the two little buggars - in addition to your stocks as well, I'd expect - they work together - one does the distracting, the other gets the loot - we've seen it in action on the fells with walkers lunches

I promised myself a week off after Rotherham, Im glad I did my ankle was a wee bit sore for a few days after. Its fine and dandy now had a pleasant 7miler on the roads with a good few hills.

When I promise myself an easy week or week off it never really happens. Last week I just did not feel like running for some reason.

Back into it this week, few runs during the week then our xmas on the fells run to look forward too.
