Can anybody advise me as to how much money I need to spend on a head torch. I need one for running on trials and down canals etc at night. Looking at previous threads, some people seem to get by with £40-60 ones, while one torch was over £170. Are the former category bright enough?
The Petzl Myo XP is certainly bright enough for me for running on tracks and paths round Rossendale.
This is the best in my opinion in your price range.
Half price of what you would pay in England.

It beats the myo for light but the myo wins on batterys.
I hope this helps.
That's the Apex Pro which despite being lighter than the Apex is a bit expensive on the batteries as it uses two CR123 lithium batteries. The regular Apex is physically heavier, but with good rechargeable batteries you should get a longer burn time.
I got mine from;

I never use the full power setting on the Myo XP so for me the brighter light from the Princeton would not be worth the additional weight.
