I use Tracklogs for my mapping and carry a GPS. The ascent on Tracklogs is 4635 feet on the long route and 2711 on the short route. I think the GPS is a bit unreliable because it is counting every little up and down such as stiles and jumping over bogs!! I have never registered over 5000 feet and our intention in stating over 4000 feet was not to put too many people off particularly runners. I think it worked but now the cat is out of the bag. It might well have felt like over 5000 feet but that is another matter.
A word of thanks to all you runners who entered. You bring a real buzz to the event as does your forum. It is truly amazing to us walkers how quickly you get round. Of course you are all LDWA members in the making when you reach the third age or possibly sooner so keep coming back but please try and get your entries in sooner.
