Thanks for that report.
For those who don't know, Amex is a stalwart member of his own local Mountain Rescue team.
I'm sure it wasn't his ambition to do so, but he finally gets to appear in a report:
http://www.lamrt.org.uk/incidents/2010/incident/110
Well done MG :D I am sure Amex is extremely grateful you were there to look after him. Also well done to everyone else, the passers by MG mentioned, Wheezing Donkey and the mountain rescue. Just shows how important it is to support them.
Sounds nasty though Amex. Really hope you mend quickly, speedy recovery vibes coming your way.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Hope your ok Amex!
BUT - I must say....how lucky is Wheezy to get to drive Amex's car home...you lucky git! :D
Gutted for you Amex.
I did not get to drive it HOME, young Al. All the cars had to be out of the compound at Hodge Close by 18.00 on Saturday as the gate was going to be locked. Having stashed Steve's bumbag & rucksack from the marquee in the boot, I just drove it round to the 3 Shires Inn and left the keys with Selwyn & Elaine to hold behind the bar, as Alison ( Mrs Amex ) was organising a lift up with Amex Junior to pick it up.
Had a quick visit with Steve in the RLI yesterday afternoon ( did not want to intrude for too long, he had quite a family gathering around him, obviously a much loved fella ) as I only live 400 - 500 yards away.
His foot is now back in line with his leg and everything has been "pinned, plated and screwed".
Here's hoping that you make a full recovery Steve, althought it is unlikely to be a "quick" one!
The lovely Mountain Goatess, my mate Andy Farmer ( Fiendsdale R.O.) and I were amongst first half dozen to get up to Steve ( from the 3 Shires Stone ) when he started "screaming and hollering". When I saw the state of his ankle with his foot dangling to one side, I must confess that I nearly "yodelled for Hughie". Andy F played a blinder, ran down to the road, grabbed somebody's cell-phone then hot-footed up Wetside Edge to get a signal and got the first call into 999/Police to alert the MRT.
Only just seen this. Horrible, terrible news. Well done MG, WD et al. Get well soon Steve!
Hi Ian, certainly seems a bit creepy!! Steve's case was visually more gruesome; but the Edale hypo was far more scarey, as I related to MG on the way down Wrynose Pass, with the casualty drifting in & out of consciousness, all delirious & hallucinating. When you kept nipping to the top of the knoll to obtain a radio signal, there were times when I thought that you would return to find me attempting to massage some heat into a corpse!!
Any results??
I really hope Amex is treated promptly by the NHS and given all the access to rehab programs that is available, my mum's just been through the mill with Gall Bladder problems culminating in a Pancreas infection and all Jimmy's did was mess around and delay her treatment. After she went yellow and collapsed in Orkney they operated on her there and then at Aberdeen and the consultants were horrified to learn how she'd been messed around and passed here and there in Leeds. Just a postcode lottery or something i guess, once they know you're not going to die on them you start getting moved back down the queue.
Few more photos from Saturday here http://justusandafewfriends.blogspot...fell-race.html
I hope the chap who broke his leg gets well soon.
The runner who fell near the start was from my club. He seemed OK when we picked him up and got him out of the way and he told us to keep going, but it turned out he cut his side somehow and had to go to hospital to get patched up.
Correct R.H. Steve was in 35 on Sunday afternoon; enter via the Centenary Building to the RHS of the A&E entrance (glass canopy) as you look from Ashton Road, and set back a bit.
NB. Please be mindful that Steve's family will want a good portion of the visiting time with him. On Sunday afternoon, I only hung around for 4 or 5 minutes, just long enough to let him know that the thoughts of the hill-going community are with him, as there were already 6 or 7 family members present.
i have forgotten to thank the guy with the bike who was passing up a bottle just after Wrynose and again at Blea Tarn.
thank you very much as i was sufferring with a bit of cramp so very welcome.
see you at Langdale hopefully lol
just spoke to the ward and Steve is going home tomorrow but will pop in and say hi tonight

Sorry I didnt get a photo of you. Langdale Mara' tomorrow?
Errr No! Think I'll just stay local, but thanks for asking. Don't think my legs have recovered from last weekend yet. :-))
Only just caught up with the Amex news after a call with Emmi yesterday morning, seeking Selwyn's phone number.
Really sorry to hear this news Steve, and all the best for a good recovery in the coming weeks.
Chin up, you'll be back.
Well what a week:wink:
I must say a very humble thank you to every body involved in my little slip up last week, from my first look down at my ankle to see my tib sticking out to now i have been amazed at the genuine care, love, understanding, people seeing me and good wishes that have come my way F*&$ me even a pigeon turned up on my window sill!
I can not believe the good wishes honest, its hard for me to understand:o
My injury list is quite impressive and i will probably bore people in years to come, tib open fracture ie stuck out and used as a brake in the mud, all ligaments snapped, dislocated ankle and fib broken in TEN places.
I won't hog this RACE thread any more, apart from to say a big thank you to the marshalls and race organisers, i really really hope to grace this race again.
I will post a more grapic race report in the coming days on the Pony Web site.
Steve
you don't have to...you have your own thread here look x
Has anybody got a .gpx or .kml file of the race route please?
