And ive spent many an hour listening to rolf harris.
Oh yes, static shocks! :)
I got caught out by light or lack thereoff because of working later than hoped for, so my two hours hard with hills became one hour not quite so hard, with hills :( Finished at the chippy though, but after having had my chips, still had to climb a decent one to get back into my valley. Always hard on a full stomach with cafe legs... Lovely sunny evening though and now it is raining, so maybe I should have gone on, did fit lights to the bike! I have just bought an Exposure Strada for the looming dark nights, but am still too nervous to go out on my own, let alone in the dark... Keep thinking I am going to be hit from behind again and this time I won't sprain and whiplash my neck, I will break it and I will be paralised... I know, horrid thoughts to have, it is called post traumatic stress I believe :(
Damn you Steve, I now have had this in my head all evening:

Bet Hann's got the cleanest windows in Wales!
Bloody hell, got the new rollers, and, by-eck they teck some getting used to.
But I won't be beat by it, I will keep going, little and often.
got the Shap and back time trial on Sunday. 28 miles from Kendal over Shap fell to Shap village and back over shap to Kendal. 28 miles. I have been on my bike 4 times this year!!! i am off rider No 1 so might just finish before the last rider finishes!!!
Well done Trevor :-) have you got those fancy rollers that move back and forth? Be careful for the magic 50 mark, that's where everything goes numb! 60 plus miles for me today over the rolling hills (and some rather flippin steep don't you know) of beautiful bowland. Did part of Le Terrier route, armed with the map from last weeks comic Was very lucky with the weather as managed to out ride the shower clouds although the constant winds around here never cease to amaze me Fab cafe stop at Dunsop Bridge - well it'd have been rude not too starvin now though reckon I've enough energy to muster up a cold platter or something! Wheeze are you still on your low GI diet after all these years or did you crumble? Thinking of giving it another go losing a few pounds should make the hills seem less mountain like perhaps?!! Brilliant day, few bikies about but they all seem to be going in the opposite direction
Great but painful return to riding after 2 months off for wedding and honeymoon. 37 miles, 5550 feet, 8 hills and 2.5 hours! Legs pretty shot now so I think i'll be asleep after a couple of hours at my little brother's stag do
Well done Trevor, you are putting me to shame. It's about 15 or 20 years ago that I pulled a set of old TACX rollers out of a skip at work. Last December I finally got round to ordering/buying a drive belt from the LBS. Trouble is; I've heard that many horror stories that I didn't dare to give it a go, in a very cluttered garage, during the winter. I suppose I should practise out on the lawn, whilst we still have light evenings??
Had a quick sweat n snot 1 hour interval session on the back lanes(rough n hilly) with a 17 average on my 30 year old Olmo
Will do the same tomorrowbut for 2 hours:)
Yesterday was a bit epic... 6hrs 36 minutes, 112 miles... and no, not another, full, Fred Whitton! This time I rode around the lanes of South Wales. It included three big climbs though: Gospel Pass, Llangynidr Mountain and the Tumble... then on to Chepstow, Devauden, Monmouth and two more climbs up Rockfield and Cross Ash to Campston hill... Was getting a tad tired 6 hours in, but bodes well for Three Peaks endurance :)
Today, by means of recovery, I spent a good hour riding the crosser with Landcruiser tyres on (for 3 peaks) at the Forest of Dean trail centre, doing a blue and red route. MTB-ers were impressed and thought I was off my rocket riding the trails on the crosser LOL :) Rear wheel kept slipping down the really high, steep berms though, which is a tad disconcerting!
Just witnessed wiggins do the best ride ive seen in a long time by a british rider. Dan martin wins todays stage on the vuelta. I was jumping up and down on the sofa. Brilliant wiggins. Frome also
Well done hann. 19 mph average.Thats some going
Thanks Daz :) I was most pleased with the fact that I was able to ride steadily onto those big climbs and keep going at a decent pace till about 6 hours in, when I finally started to tire... Feeling strong! Bodes well for Three Peaks :)
Two evening meals last night, two evening meals tonight... and I am still hungry! Must be yesterdays mega ride :w00t:
First cx race for several months for me yesterday & first with my mongrel crosser. Felt happy for first 20 mins & had to slow down a lot for the technical parts after about 40mins as a contact lens blew away. Overall, it was a very, very long hour & I'm bricking it for the 3P's.
I've got the Cilcain fell race today, so should really have got on the turbo for 60mins gentle spin, followed by a cold bath, massage & early to bed wrapped in swathes of compression gear. Reality was that I got home cracked open a cider & watched La Vuelta.
Like Daz I was impressed with Wiggins & Frome, but man of the day was defo Dan Martin. Despite having the ugliest riding style I've seen the way he rode away from Roche & was then caught by Nibali & later the Wiggins group should have broken him, but his finishing sprint was awesome.
Hope to get home in time to see Wiggins boss the TT this afternoon.
I've got a hangover.
wrt Channel 4's coverage of La Vuelta, isn't Matt Rendell great? Complete statto cycling nerd, but has a great, dry sense of humour.
Shame about the Spanish TV coverage of the race. The French did such a great job of the Tour of California & Le Tour.
What was the camera work like for the Giro? I don't have Sky.
I don't know about TV coverage, but the BBC seems to have simply given up since Cavendish went out,

I have watched bits of the US Pro Tour (or something) because my chum has a house in Colorado and could be seen leaning on a post as the race went by and I am going to Steamboat Springs and Denver next year.
(Good enough excuse?)
Anyway; whilst the racing has been deadly dull (8 right-angle turns in 100 miles of racing on arrow-straight roads) some of the on-screen graphics could be adopted over here. Instead of relying on David Harmon to remember who did what when the data appears at the bottom of the screen in the typical US obsession with stats.
They also sometimes show a picture of the rider and an arrow pointing to where they are in the bunch. Not quite as good: but my point is sometimes new ideas do come along.
Recovery ride around Gisburn Forest...that place is really taking off. Glad they are building a visitor centre and bigger car park....couldn't get near Cocklet hill car park!
We have needed a shake up in the way channels cover cycling for years. The technology isnt a problem but the money and the willpower to do it is.Pro cycling has always been loathed to allow outsiders to come in and promote the sport. Its not the done thing.Added to that the tour has always carried it through. How hard would it be to have a walk through the riders as they prepare for the off and get a few comments. Instead we get a walk through the team bus, yawn.
100 miles for me today as a helper. Revelution spinnings day out to the tom simpson museum. Spent a lot of time fetching riders back to the bunch. It was agreed to go fast on the way back. After 8 miles the fast group of 10 were down to three, myself and two other good riders. We battled the wind all the way back through and off at probably the fastest pace ive gone for a long while.18 mph average going out nice and steady. Coming back, god knows.
Good effort Daz
Puts my 30mins on rollers to shame.
But owt is better than nowt in a fat lads world.
PS
Having a 2nd month of Beer and choc (September).
Might start looking at a autum, winter training plan so in spring I will be in average shape. Looking for a good year on the bike (enter something or do a challenge) and in the Bofra races.
More Three Peaks training for me today, after yesterdays hour or so at a trail centre on the crosser, upsetting the MTB-ers :D
A good 4.5 hours of riding in the wilds of the Brecon Beacons, on similar terrain to three peaks, including carrying the bike up Cribyn (similar to Simon's Fell, not as long or steep though) and Pen-y-Fan (similar to Whernside). Tired and achey now, but gained off road confidence and learnt a new carrying technique that doesn't affect my separated shoulder so much :D
Good work Hanneke! What is the new carry technique?
I did some flat / sedate rides along the Monsal Trail (old railway line) - 6.5 miles Saturday, 8.5 miles Sunday :)
hanneke could you tell me what are the legal requirements of things you have to carry with you on the 3 peals cross ? ie maps ect . and what personal things will you be taking ie tubes gels ect ?
