Luke folk are not defined by their sporting prowess (thank God). One of the perennial problems with injury is that many athletes immediately cut themselves off from the club-mates, pals, training partners etc. There is way more to sport than taking part as Stagger pointed out so well above. Everyone should do some marshaling; even wandering part way up the hill for the crack and banter is better than sitting at home

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation seems to be scratching away at this conundrum and there is no doubting that sometimes, to fix the body, first you have to fix the 'mind', whatever that concept actually is.
But early results in TMS treatment for depression are encouraging. I liken it a bit to re-booting the brain/pc.
Mr B, if you have found a Chinese practitioner whom you trust, then go and get some treatment from him/her. If thousands of years of experience shows that something works, then it doesn't matter that Scientific Method hasn't yet explained how it works. Isaac Newton made a famous comment about being like a boy playing on a beach while the great ocean of truth was undiscovered in front of him; we have waded some distance into that ocean since Newton's time, but there is still an awful lot that we don't understand, especially in medical science.
I've been having acupuncture for several months now, some of the results are very dramatic. I fear what my life might become, i fear being trapped in a cage, i fear a lifetime of managing pain without knowing fully what is going on. Nothing has worked for me in the past, pattern recognition is telling me Chinese Medicine will be another failed attempt consigned to the heap dispite promising beginnings. I question why this is happening to me, things happen for a reason, but what am i here to learn?

Hey Wharfeego. I don't know if you are interested in a couple of books on the subject that have helped me massively in previous years.
Personally, I was never a great fan of 'self help' books as I read dozens and always felt that they stated the bloody obvious however there have been two that just clicked for me and really brought me a tremendous amount of relief. (The one by Claire Weekes, well, I felt it could have been written by me.)
They are Claire Weekes - the latest help for your nerves and The Power of Your Sub-Conscious Mind by Joseph Murphy.
I hope you are ok. I know how awful it can be. Please don't give up.

You're missing the point Stagger. Some people have nothing, some people seemingly have everything. And yet some of the happiest people I've met are the ones with nothing and some of the unhappiest are the ones with "everything". The only difference in those people is the ability to recognise what they do have rather than what they don't.
If you continue to think your happiness rests in the hands of someone else, then you will continue to suffer. Look inward for the answers and find strength. Good luck.

Hi Stagger.
My best friend and his wife separated around 7 or 8 years ago. There were no other people involved but she didn't love him anymore and told him as much. He was offered the choice of staying in the relationship or leaving. She said she respected him as a father for their kids but could have no physical contact with him.
He decided he didn't want to live like that so he left. She has really done a number on him and with hindsight engineered a lot of the situation so it would reflect badly on him i.e. he was the one that left the matrimonial home, etc.
Anyway, he is hands down one of the most decent guys you could meet but she really screwed him - and still is. He is paying half her mortgage whilst working all the hours to take home around £20k a year whereas she has received a big promotion since their separation and is on over £60k a year. It doesn't cut any ice with the CSA or the legal people apparently.
I ask him how he doesn't get bitter and he says he does at times but he had to let it go as it was going to destroy him. He says it won't always be like that and he is still close to his kids. He's since met someone who is a much better match for him and is happy with her now although I know the position his ex-wife engineered for him still is hard to take.
Sorry if this seems patronising - it is the last thing I intend - but he had to let go of his bitterness towards her as it was dragging him down even though he was fully entitled to it, believe me.

That's very similar to my situation.
Fell out of love. (it happens)
Split. (sad but true)
Now she is trying to take me to the cleaners. (totally unreasonable and not fair)
Also dragging it on to mess with my mental illness. (disgusting behaviour)
Next court is 18th Dec and hopefully that will bring closure and allow me to move on and rebuild my life.

And if it helps, I dont think knowing the ins and outs of your personal situation would change the support we try to give. Its not material, honestly. So give the mods due credit for treading in fine line. There are legal obligations to running a forum and they must act within them.
A few weeks ago I posted it was maybe a good time for everyone to consider using this thread to discuss depression and mental health topics, not specifics of people's lives best kept to private messages with friends not a public forum. Nothing has changed

I've found some hope. My Chiropractor, who is a far better musculoskeletal specialist than he gives himself credit for, has got me on a very aggressive stretching program. At least 40mins every day in 2 sessions and alternate morning gym sessions lasting 45mins; all stretching around hip flexors with some band work. It really hurts! Some of my ranges of hip movement were down to 10% of FSD due to inactivity and resting, which had started kneecap maltracking issues. It's a sledgehammer approach, but hopefully one which will clear out the worst of the problem.
My mate who has Bipolar has talked me into having a Thyroid test, i hate needles. He's got a plan for getting my head back into shape and has me on a 2 weekly report. I didn't know i had mates who cared that much.
3rd time this week that I wake up and then can't get back to sleep.
I'll be knackered all day now.
Oh well, less than a month to the shortest day.
