Have all the entries filled up now? I sent mine over 2 weeks ago so I'm curious to find out if I've made the list.
Nothing is showing on here: http://www.marsdentoedale.co.uk/Entry%20list.htm
*fingers crossed*

A few of us are coming down from Ambleside for this one. We are hoping to get down for a recce in Dec but after looking at the map I was wondering if the route just follows the Pennine Way from the first road crossing or whether there are any direct lines worth taking.
In my opinion the most important section to recce is from Kinder Downfall, across the plateau. There is no obvious line and it is definitely not wise to follow others here (not even Dark Peak-ers!)as everyone seems to take different lines with varying degrees of success.
following the Penine Way from Black Hill onwards is far from the optimum line (IMO) and you would have to make a detour to Higher Shelf trig. The direct lines from Crowden across Bleaklow to Snake summit are also well worth recce-ing if you have time.
To get an idea of route choices I'd recommend looking on the 'Route Builder' on Strava.com and turning on the Global Heatmap. This'll give you an indication of popular routes over Bleaklow & Kinder. This should give you a better idea of the bits to recce.

Don't think you will have too many problems on first leg as long as you are not leading and it's not foggy.
from crowden though there are lots of choices dependent on a mix of things, Confidence, shortest, easiest to nav, weather. Simplist is to follow PW but even here there are route options. Most will head for the desolation of Smaug...sorry I mean Lawrence edge and by compass, grough, fence, clough, stream or a combination work out a route to Shelf moor, also conditions on the ground can make a route choice important, ice, deep snow, bog. so many options here.
As Ian says above it matters not if you don't know your way over kinder..
Made a massive hash of this last year in the fog and snow on my own at the back. Thought I was doing well as the footprints were going my way then completely lost them on the route I had planned (taking a direct bearing to where Grindslow Knoll path joins the kinder edge path- not recommended) . Its my third year of recceing this and only now is Kinder revealing its secrets. That's the greatest thing about this race so much route choice. Like others I would recommended a linear recce from Crowden to Edale- logistically a bit difficult to organise but well worth it. Before that everyone goes pretty much the same route and not much choice.
I now have a tried and tested preferred crossing of Kinder from Kinder Gates to Grindslow Knoll that only involves one Xmas tree. :D
It is also a bonus that it is one of the Xmas trees that is planted in the ground, and not one of the many that are in peat pots that Glossop / Pennine / Dark Peak runners keep moving about the plateau during the run-up to this race. ;)
I was up in the Lawrence Edge / Wildboar Clough area last week and discovered yet another crafty trod that I hadn't stumbled on before, despite numerous recces over the years. That's one of the beauties of Bleaklow and Kinder, there is always something new to learn on most outings.
Note: Less than 20 places left for the 2015 race!!
Is there an up to date entry list yet?
Thanks
Aiming to recce the route from Crowden - Edale (or, quite possibly, in reverse of this) on the last weekend of Novembet. If anyone fancies joining me, get in touch.
Also keen to get the ball rolling with liftshare (linear route & my partner doesn't drive...) - if anyone is keen to meet at Edale early on race day & share lift up to Marsden, please get in touch :)
Sam I've sent you PM re lift.
The race for January 2015 is now full and all extra entries are placed on a Reserve Runner list. More details and updates will be posted on www.marsdentoedale.co.uk
Thanks for your support.
Did you get my entry, sent a couple of weeks back, cheque's come out, but not on list yet (Was for myself and bob smith)
Cheers
Quite possibly doing a recce of part of the route on Friday 19th December or Saturday 20th December; probably backwards from Edale and up on to Kinder, perhaps to Snake Pass and then back. Potentially head out for a short recce after Famous Grouse this Sunday too, depending on the temptation of a chip butty...
If anyone is interested in joining me for any of these dates, please get in touch. Not looking to go anything approaching race pace, more interested in establishing a clearer idea of the route and brushing up on nav skills.
Bump - if anyone is interested in joining me for a recce next week on Friday 19th or Saturday 20th, please get in touch. Now decided that I'm most likely to recce from Crowden road crossing to Kinder Downfall (or thereabout), then reverse this - probably with slightly different route to look at other possibilities - to get back to my van at Crowden.
I was just reading Nicky's instructions for alternate routes if the Kinder plateau is out of bounds on the day. Now I am not sure which way to choose...maybe a recce of Upper Booth to Edale is required .. are there any paths there to avoid using the road ?
Upper Booth to Edale is easy, the Pennine way along there is a nice grassy path.
The section of the Pennine Way on the metalled road to Barber Booth from Jacob's Ladder is fairly short.
Can we take a straight line from Noe Stool to the base of Jaccob's Ladder?
Going to make it quite a bit longer! It would be a painfull slog back the valley after a long day.
I've emailed Nicky to clarify and will post my response here to try and minimise the questions she gets, the main one being whether cutting a line from Kinder Low to Noe Stool is out of bounds, but also forgot to ask whether by-passing the woolpacks is also out o bounds as well.
The direct line to Noe Stool & wool packs bypass is important. Wool packs is a very slow section if we have to go through it. For people who still have "running" in their legs the longer but easier route along the pennine way down in the valley could well be faster.
I was thinking about the climb out of Upper Booth on the PW which on the map I have looks to be about 250' and how to avoid it by dropping down and contouring across to Edale station or thereabouts ? I am glad they are starting the race 30 minutes earlier now as I might have had to run for my train back otherwise :D
There is a lower path from Barber Booth that leads you to that field that is used as a Carpark for the Edale Skyline.
Part of that route is a permissive path so you will not see a path the whole way on the map.
You would then endup coming down the ramp from the Train station carpark and have to go back up the road a bit.
Not sure if it would be worth it though. There are a number of gates & styles and the fields are quite soft, plus it is longer than the Pennine Way. The climb out of Upper Booth is not much it may be quicker on the Pennine Way.
Thoughts on Jacobs Ladder? Might be a hairy descend...just as quick to take the loop?
