Well Done to those running through icy bogs!!
Are there any piccies of this jaunt?
ooh, and while I'm on
how about a Fell Ponies 2008 Championship?
we'd just need somebody (with a bit more experience than me! :o )to pick a few counters from the 2008 calendar
then somebody to count up the points (along similar lines to the Hayfield Championship maybe?) - I wouldn't mind doing this bit... :D
On a personal level, I would say go for it if thats what you'd like to do. I think that really is essentially the thinking behind Fell Ponies ie- that you don't feel bound by silly rules (silly being the operative word) and that you don't have to seek approval from a chairman or some high authority figure to do so. Thats why we don't have said roles and figures. Canvass for support, and see who's interested.
you get more points for coming last - how about that???:D
all the speedy thoroughbreds have minus points for winning!!!
not sure I like the idea myself only because you might feel governed to do them - I know it's only fun etc but those that don't/can't do the chosen races may feel a bit excluded???
just a thought - I don't get them often granted and now my head hurts:o
In which case we could have a large number of counting races, and only have to compete in a few
this is probably a good idea anyway as we are so spread out geographically
how about 5 Shorts, 5 Mediums and 5 Longs
That would make 15 counters
say best 4 to count (or best 5?) (inc. 1 Short, 1 Med, 1 Long)
Hey how about a really complicated formula that takes into account your age
So you get say 10 base points for finishing in the top 10% and 1 base point for finishing in the bottom 10% and then multiply that by your age (attained, whole years :)). So a top 10% finish for a 50 year old would score a massive 500 points whereas for a 30 year old they'd get a measly 300 points.
The geek in me can feel a stupidly clever spreadsheet coming on......
I think all Ponies should nominate say 3 races race at each distance then Daz (well volunteered;) ) can let us all know the top 4 (or 5) in each distance which will become next year's Championship races.
...and then Stolly can use his spreadsheet to his hearts content!!
Club vests, club website, club grand prix series, club statistician......
This is more organised than most other clubs!
I reckon i must be missing something here why would a `non` club that has no interest in rules or conformity be interested in taking part in anything that has been organised, or even organising anything themselves, surely by doing so they are contradicting the whole ethos on which the `non` club was founded
No , no,...you ve missed the beat John K....... read my previous post.........the idea is not to be bound by silly rules....silly being the operative word.....hence no committee and no silly club rules
Nope i fully understand that but anything that is organised has to be governed by rules, some of which can be regarded as silly depending on your viewpoint.
Hence my confusion and my question why do group of people that claim to have no need for rules wish to take part in anything that is organised and through necessity has to have rules in order for it to work, as i say it surely must be a contradiction to the whole ethos of a non club.
Just trying to undrestand;)
Its called fun. Tallying points in some fashion for racing as a pony won't be taken as anything more as some tongue in cheek fun by me for sure; I'm crap too which helps and either way I'm not fussed whether we do arbritarily keep a score or not. And why do you keep talking about rules? Nobody's ruling anything are they?
anyone interested in entering a 2008 Fell Ponies Championship (and that includes non-Fell Ponies):
PM me with a few suggestions for counting races...
Well I'd prefer any race to count or maybe your personal top ten; as soon as you go for selected races it will make things pretty pointless (:) - see the hidden pun there) as for some reason my better half sees me sometimes doing things other than racing at the weekends.
[quote=FellMonster;90745]Come on John, seriously....
seriously is to complicated for me when it comes to fun:confused:
You're avatar is a little intimidating by the way John. Is it a yorkshire hound? Is it true that they bark with a yorkshire accent?

Here's how the East Midlands orienteering League works:
"4. A competitor’s total score will be the sum of his/her best eight event point scores calculated as below.
5. At each event points will be allocated to each participant as follows
(i) The race time of each competitor will be adjusted by an age-based percentage handicap (see below).
(ii) The winner of each course on the basis of these adjusted times will be given 1000 points.
(iii) Other competitors will be given points according to the formula:
competitor's score = 1000 x competitor's adjusted time / winner's adjusted time
6. The percentage handicap adjustments will be as follows:
M/W 10 & below: 62% M/W 12: 68% M/W 14: 73% M/W 16: 79% M/W 18: 85% M20: 97 %
W20: 94% M/W 21: 100% M/W 35: 94% M/W 40: 88% M/W 45: 82% M/W 50: 76% M/W 55: 71%
M/W 60: 65% M/W 65: 60% M/W 70: 55% M/W 75 & above: 50%"
How's that for starters?
P. "Soon to be a pony" M.
yeah - thanks guys - I will be taking all your input on board ;)
alternatively, I can just supply the base data and everybody can apply their own individual scoring system to ensure they win! :D
I am anticipating an avalanche (an AVALANCHE I say) of PM's with people wanting to enter the Fell Ponies 2008 Championship, after everybody starts perusing the 2008 calendar and getting busy with their highlighting pens... :)
Nothing beats a bit of straight talking:p
And Crumbly knows i mean it!
