Hi Bill
I tried my first ever parkrun on Saturday at Cuerden valley, apparently it's one of the more undulating courses.
I can see the benefit of these type of runs to improve your speed.

Darren if you apply the same commitment to your training as you have with your racing, owt could happen!
Good luck and all the best
Harv
Also, i'm not gonna be able to use the line "well, Darren does at least 2 races a week" to get a pass out any more. Your decision to cut down on racing could have massive ramifications for fellrunners with families everywhere.
Hi Harvey
It's runners like yourself that's prompted me to have a bash at this training malarkey. I remember when I used to beat you....now I can't get near you, ya bugger!
I'll probably still be racing twice a week... Just not twice a day!
Take care mate, your improvement has been an inspiration.
Hey 'sticks you can spend your race entry money at the barbers
Darren used to spend his money at the barbers as well as on his race entry fees; seen here at the Borrowdale 2011…
Did my own take on Fishwicking today: Early start to drive to Glenridding to climb Catstye Cam Gully onto (surprisingly) Catstye Cam, just about made it back to the car in time to drive over to Sedbergh for the KWL race. The climbing must've been a good warm up, I felt great at Sedbergh!
So that was your secret! Good running today Sam, couldn't catch you...
Has Daz cut down on his racing as he said he would?
Darren tore a calf muscle or summat I think, so that stopped him for a spell. Think that was the result of training rather than racing! He's easing back into it now with about 6 races int last 2 weeks. That about right Darren?
Hiya lads, hope you're all well.
Andrew- death to false metal, roooock on dude!
Sam- you're flying at the moment, keep it up fella.
Harv- yep, I torn my calve during Box Hill fell race last month and like a complete bell end I carried on to the finish, limping, crawling, hopping etc.
Should never of started the race really, was coming down with lurgy and aching all over but decided to run because we'd made the effort to travel down a couple of days earlier...felt great when we left home. I think calve went because I felt so shit on the day.
What followed was nearly 4 weeks of hardly any running, just plenty of moping about like a slapped arse, my wife's words not mine. Slowly getting back into it, raced 4 times recently...Dark un, Bleasdale, Crunswick and High cup Nick.
Still not 100% just yet, can't say that I'm looking forward to Black Combe, probably see the back of you as you disappear into the distance.
Glad to see you're on the mend Daz ~ you still beat me at Bleasdale even with a gammy calf.
If you are doing the Stan Bradshaw on Saturday you could do the Burnley park run first ~ it's only 7 miles down the road ;)
Hope to see you there (at SB that is, not the park run!)
Hopefully see you at Stan Bradshaw but I'll give the parkrun a miss...I'm going soft. Like yourself Mark, I love Pendle hill, it's a belter. Been and done a reccy today, could be interesting from cp2 to cp3 if the clags down...bring it on!
Sam Does winning a Parkrun the day before not count? I know it's not fell running but that's got to be one of the toughest parkruns going. Well done anyway.

Obsessive Fell Racing Disorder
Today's 'Sedbergh 3 Peaks' makes for three races in four days for Mr Fishwick.
First Fishwicking ever for me today, parkrun in the morning (19.32) and Buckden Pike in the afternoon.
I honestly thought it'd be easy, but it wasn't. When i was recceing the last drop there seemed to be something up with my legs, but i put it down to not having run a fell race since April and living off a diet of flat and fast. With the first big climb out of the way i resolved to just plod and make up for my sloth on the way down, it was going ok and i felt quite zippy on the flat top section. The first descent section came and i just couldn't find any speed, by the time i was contouring over the mine my legs were like jelly and i honestly thought i'd have to walk the rest of the way. I was cursing my complacency and reaping the whirlwind of my cocky attitude to a Fishwicking. I was on my arse all the way to the fence, it's fast and flat all the way, but i couldn't maintain a run and people were whizzing past like i was stood still. The final run off came, it started well, but soon the legs went out of me again and i was basically shuffling. I wasn't blowing or bonking, just utterly wrecked, and staggered into the funnel in the end. It seems Fishwicking is more difficult than it looks!
Difficult in the head or the legs?
Well done Luke on your efforts though.
Will you be attempting the nutty more often?
Hard on the legs mate, the gap between the runs does something to you, perhaps a scientist could explain.
Not a scientist. But reading up on this a bit. Apparently their are 2 main things that regulate (central governor) your speed. One of them is micro muscle damage that your brain registers as a need to slow down. This happens during a race, and can have an effect days later, DOMS. Trying to run through muscle damage will always feel hard, and you may not even feel the effects of the micro tears if it's not too severe/ hasn't come on yet.
Pendle 3 Peaks followed by Burnsall on Saturday. Anyone else double-dipping?
hmm, an estimated 12:45 start at gargrave would suggest rapid finish at pendle followed by teleportation.
a Gargrave/burnsall double definitely doable though

Cheers Andy, it's always good to see you out and about.
I remember doing Arnside Knott in 2012 and you asked me how many races I'd done so far that year.
At the time I was on about 90 and you encouraged me to go for the 100 in the year...finished the year on 101.
So here we are 5 years on and I'm currently into my 5th consecutive year of 100 plus races.
Current total over the last 5 years is 546....of which 512 have been fell races. Hopefully I'll squeeze a few more in before the year ends.
In summary: my racing obsession is partly your doing...beltin.
Quality 'wicking. Good work fella

Good work Darren!
Quality 'wicking spotting Yannis!
Jack Wood also did both, 8th at Long Mynd and 2nd at Edale!
It's always an absolute pleasure seeing Yannis out and about, what a guy.
We can't forget my friend Chris Jackson who also did 'the double' and slapped my arse on both occasions.
The results Jack Wood achieved are mind blowing... Such a talent and a smashing lad.
Well done Jack and Chris.
Cheers to Nic Barber who was out spectating and ran with me for a while offering encouragement and general chit-chat.
Regardless of doing Long Mynd or not, the new Edale route is harder than the original. Everyone I spoke to also felt the same.
Cheers.
