Can we choose?
Stolly the URL address in your posting was http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?uk=358 This is the ID for LONDON.
The correct URL address is http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1173
I think regardless of the locale, it's pants UK weather for the weekend!
Mind you, I like it cool...easier running!
Thanks stringman for the wise words....first time doing the PPP but normay do longer events like the fellsman..I'm going to have to get my race head on me thinks for this as I've done the 'normal 3 peaks route' so many times but at a plodding pace' I'm aiming for 4hrs 3o. I'm the Kippax Harriers runner 505 at the back
it's gonna be a gradely day out !!!
Well then, only 46hours 35min left now.
I haven’t really got a clue how well/badly I will do. I have done a ‘million’ long distance walks but I am new to fell running and the Wadsworth Trog (3.50ish) is the only long distance race I have done.
So the plan is to start the race fully hydrated, drink at each drink station, eat some salt and ‘loads’ of jaffa cakes during the race.
Time wise I am hoping for 40-42 min on top of PYG, 1.50 Ribblehead, 2.30 Whernside, 3 Hour Hill inn, 3.40 Ingleborough and finish in 4.25.
It should be a great day out!!
ETV..Sounds like you are on my sort of pace....as well as a host of others who look like they are aiming for 4hrs 30 ish....
The one thing that worries me is the cramp up Whernside....I'm eating bananas and Electrolyte drink like crazy !!!!! Just worried its gonna strike and spoil my race !
Yes, the bastard cramps will be hard to keep away.
My plan to keep the cramp away is to have a small carb breakfast and drink 2-3 litre of water before the race.
During the race I am hoping the drink stations, some salt and my Jaffa cake diet will keep the cramp away.
Not sure if 'Whernside' and 'Ingleborough' will obey this plan though…..
I've been taking some electrolyte capsules called succeed (potassium and sodium ) for the last couple of days....weird name I know but well reviewed in triathelete magazines ...although its a bit late now for anyone to get them in long hard endurance races they seem to have helped me alot - considering I suffer with cramp more than most ! failing that there is always diarolyte :)
For my previous 3 Three Peaks races, I've got up Penygent 42 mins, to Ribblehead in 1.50 and Hill Inn in 3.15 and then the cramp strikes and everything promptly goes to pot !!!
your timings are exacly my plan but maybe I need to stop thinking too much about it and just start off steady...keep the cramp at bay and then from Ingleborough really go for it if I'm feeling chipper.....which of course I won't be :)
I just drove up through Horton to Hawes and beyond for a work meeting today andf came back the same way. I got more than a few butterflies stirring in my tummy as I went past each of the peaks and the tents in the start~finish field. It was sunny on the way back and I just had to stop at Ribblehead and look at Whernside - at a distance it looked a pussycat......... ;)
A few butterflies here too in t'office in Bradford! I was abroad on the weeks before Howarth Hobble and Calderdale Hike so didn't give them much thought beforehand and just rocked up on the day. I thought it would be good to have a week at home leading up to PPP but I'm getting really nervous now!
Nervous ...you...me... is Rob nervous do you think ?
I'm nervous, excited and above all cant wait to get to the top of Penyghent and just settle into my stride.....I think thats when the race starts for me ...once the field thins out a bit I relax more!
I guess I'm such a loner;)
If everyone is nervous, think how those sheep must be feeling with circa 700 runners chasing them!!!!!
This may have already been asked but i can't be arsed searching. Do people know if we are expected to carry a map given the course is fully marked?
Earlier replies indicated no, though a compass has to be carried. As has been pointed out already, this seems a little odd.
Do you have to stick to the path coming off Whernside?
Yes - I think I saw this on the race website.
No you don't but I've downloaded the map off the website on to a sheet of A4 and put my splits on it so I can check my progress.
The whole route is flagged and this route must be followed, Any other route will lead to instant disqualification so the website says.
I've found a few pictures of Whernside and surrounds on the internet to get everybody in the mood :)
See here
This view will be an especially welcome one for me on Saturday:

Great photo's and with the latest forecast we may get the same views on Saturday.
Cant wait to get going now...
i am going to do what i always do follow the guy or lady in front:D
Great photos - somehow got to concentrate on work today!
Off up to Leeds around midday...will be a relief to get on the move. See some of you Sat and good luck to everyone.
Cheers - Raymond H
Should have taken the day of work Guys - 1 thing I've got right so far.
Anticipation is building up slowly in my pad - just going to spend all day carbo loading (come to think of it I do that anyway ;) ) & drink loads of water.
Ill be on route, taking photos and offering support, do say hello if your passing.
Best of luck folks, this is my favourite race.
It will be great to see it from the other side of the fell shoes
Jamie
No bother pal.
Have a great run
