LOL Ant... only at the anology mind not the predicament....guess I won't be seeing you at the next AR in May then?

You probably will see me there! Unless the mud bath gets the better of me. Quite easy events as if hurting I can just get on the bike.
Hope to strap it up and run the 3 peaks but seems unlikely. Will wait till seen the sports physio before I rule it in or out.
Did first one out near macclesfield. Came in 5th despite some stupid route choices and a hangover. I think all the D & W events are top notch! Mate did the last one and said it was another hilly affair!
Even tempted to do the June skins night adventure race after running Ennerdale during the day.
Oh and hoping a new bike will be getting its first run out at Open 5! Instantly lose 4 1/2 kilos in weight with a decent bike and have brakes and gears that work!
You decided on the open 12 or 24 yet?
really want to do the 24 can't do the 12 as will be in Nice for the Ironman....we came 3rd in our category at the skins in grindleford....loved it though but again some route choices could have been better but agree on the open 5 being really well run in fact better than skins but i like the fact i won a prize at skins!!
I CAN RUN!!!!
I know I did a sneaky 45 mins a couple of days ago but now the Physio says it is okay as long as the terrain is FLAT. Obviously I missed out the bit about me "testing" it but is great that I can now do it and not have to sneak around like a druggie getting my (running) fix.
3 Peaks here I come!
Well its kinda flat apart from a few hills in the middle. Not exactly challenging terrain either is it. ;)
Got 18 days to ensure that it is as strong as it can be as it still is no-where near 100% but it will be stirrup strapped so chances of a repeat are slim.
Bloody Hell,
thats a great turnaround - but the three peaks eek:eek:
Oh don't get me wrong, I still firmly reside in the Injuries section. Technically I should still have the aircast on and it was initially said I would but it really is not needed anymore. Was told 2 weeks ago that it would be at least a month before I was running and that has been cut in half! It is stronger but by no means strong. I will have to run with it strapped in tape and full flexibility is not back yet but it has been a suprising recovery from even last week.
Been putting a lot of time into the ankle though and spent every second I could working on either strength or flexibility. To the extent of cooking all of the dinner last night on one leg and watching the apprentice on a wobble board. I also have a thera band strapped to my desk at work.
I am hopeful for the 3 peaks that is probably the best way to put it. But it is looking a lot more likely than a couple of weeks ago
Well done Tony,
All the strengthening and hard work is paying off for you.
I am currently sat at my desk with a ball between my legs squeezing as the physio suggested. Need to streghten my quads to help my knee track a bit better.
Ran a flat 5k race last night, still been told to stay off the hills for a while.
Missing the fells like mad though
Great that your improving so quickly
Had to go out today to shake some of the PPP stiffness out so off I went at 7.30am in the rain :(
Ended up with twin fractures of Tib and Fib (both legs) Open fracture to the hand and spinal injuries. Had to lay there for a couple of hours waiting for the MR to find me. Fortuanately the proffesionalism of the team medics soon sorted me out. It was good to see how well the team work under pressure from the wrong side. I was soon stableised and wisked away on a virtual yellow budgie
Luckily for me it was just an exercise:D and I was soon on my feet. However it could happen and I'm glad the Guys and Gals of MR are out there.
Going the bath now to try and get rid of all the fake blood.;)
Back on here again:( - minor calf pull last night - still managed to continue run and not horrendously tight today so 3-4 days 'RICE' should do it - he says!!
Feel a stifness in the achilles area following on from Coiners - hope the recovery can be measured in days / weeks rather than months - unlike last year.
Hi Manhar, how was Coiners? Sorry to hear your achilles is giving you grief. I can sympathise with you as mine has been sore for about a month. It doesn't bother me much when walking or running, it's just when I've been sat for a while and especially when I get out of bed on a morning. Did you have the same problem last year then?
I've not run since PPP. Fairly certain I've got the dreaded 'runners knee' like Jamie. Definitely got all classic symptoms; soreness in and around both knee caps, pain walking downstairs especially after sitting for a while etc. I know Jamie's struggling to get rid of this and now know how he feels. Hating not being able to pull some kit on and have a steady trot up the Beacon or a dash round Strid Woods but trying to stay sane / fit with some mountain biking. Has anyone seen this off and have any advice please?
I've no idea if I had the same thing DT but in January I jarred my left knee and had very similar symptons to yours. I gritted my teeth and carried on running though, sometimes using one of those narrow knee support bands (although I have no idea if it helped other than psychologically). I would also plaster the knee in deep heat before a run which again made me feel more confident and warmed up but may or may not of actually done any good. By carrying on running, I would get a build up of water on the knee each time which was a bit disconcerting.
My treatment was to loaf in front of the TV in the evenings with a bag of frozen peas over my knee - this magical cure all did make a big difference (or may have just helped pass the time while the knee cured itself ). The water on the knee gradually receded over time so I could see it was getting better - it did take at least 8 weeks to go and, even now if I do full knee bend, heel on buttock stretch, I can still feel it a little. Mind you at one time I couldn't do these stretches on this leg at all and gradually being able to do them reassured me that it was getting better.
Running through the injury worked for me but I'd be wary of necessarily taking that as advice because there's a real chance that it could make things worse.
Andy,
Its a funny one is this, the pain is not too much to stop me running on the flat. I'm just really aching for a few days afterwards enough to tell me something is not right. The stairs can be agony, I could be being soft here.
I would prob see a physio or give it a bit of time off. I can give it 5 full days of rest until I think its completely gone. I then run and it comes straight back.
I echo everything that Stolly has said about the icing and stuff. My physio also told me tobuild my inner quads up to help the knee track correctly. It has become very cracky and clicky but it could have done that before.
I have been cycling on it, but I'm not sure if its to good for it. The knee is still moving through the the full 45 degree motion, therefore causing friction and more inflammation. I would defo stay out of the hard gears and stay in the seat.
It's fair enough running on the flat for a while, but at the end of the day we all want to run on the hills. I'm certainly not confident enough for downhills yet.
I really suffered after a 10k also, so I would stay off the roads also. I would rest up for a while let the inflammation go down.
Its a bugger to shift, albeit not that painful. My knee's seem to have been aching dully for 4 months now on very little running.
I'm also in the mind set of forgetting how I my knee's used to feel after a long run and whether Im reading to much into things on the back of how the injury felt at its worst.
'm slightly worried about the long term effect of running through it. (oh dont be so bloody soft)
Googling (probably the worst thing you can do) suggest 4-6 weeks full recovery with complete rest icing, stretchnig and strengthening. I have yet to try this being a complete bird brain, but it does sound like a good idea. I could have been fixed up by early March.
PS - Went to the Rams last premiership away game at Ewood, the fans seemed to be having a great time.
Jamie
....make that 7-8 days and counting:(. Although I didn't attempt running when in Teesdale over w/e calf has suffered from the walking. Cycled to work today but experience tells me (having suffered calf pulls on both legs on and off for the past few years) it could be a while yet before I can run comfortably again:(
I haven't tried running and the gentle mountain biking I've done (sat down, easy gear) hasn't seemed to irritate it
Think I'm just going to keep icing and not running and see what happens. Problem on horizon is Yoredale 100  . Did RRR50 as qualifier and have entered etc and will be gutted if can't do it. I'll take my chance at walking it and suppose have couple or three of weeks to go yet.
Hi Mountain Goatess
Coiners was good - nice n boggy - just how I like my running. Felt the achilles stiffen during the race but not too severe to have to pull up. A couple of years ago I did have the same symptons that you have described here but the crucial thing was I was able to continue running. Then last year I had problems in the achilles area where I couldn't run at all - Funnily enough around the same time in the year - I'm just hoping that I'm not out for too lengthy a period as I will be crawling up the walls, now that the summer is finally here.
saturday's injury........don't stare at the squirrel that's unusually bold and close to the path....the path is never flat.....twisted ankle, kiddie grazes on hands and other knee. Cracking purple bruise on outside of ankle:D
WHY does it always happen just as I begin to get more confident and relaxed.
Just had an x ray. Stress fracture in my right foot. Very depressed. :( Haven't been for a run for 5 days and it's not feeling good for the next few weeks, very sore
Sorry to hear your news Mountain Goatess it sounds painful. Try and stay positive I am now in my 3rd week of almost no running I have enetered a couple pf races and had to pull out including the Garburn race this weekend.
I think we all get a bit down when we get injured and then it seems to take an eternity to get right. Keep your chin up and take it easy.
Sorry to hear your news MG  . Can you walk or cycle on it to keep some fitness up? Good luck with recuperation
Thanks guys, yeah I am feeling very down, at the moment it's painful to walk and I don't think I could cycle either. But I'm trying to keep hopeful that I will be okay for the Wharfedale marathon  I'm just gutted I can't get out and continue the good training I was doing! :(
Anyway Pinno...your turn to chase past me on the league table eh?!!! :p
Don't think I will surpass you this month MG on the Fetchie table. Going to wait till Monday before I start running again. I am feeling a lot better today my problem is I am just to impatient to wait for an injury to clear up.
We could have our own fetchie bike table?... been on mine a few times last week.
Cycling in the gym is not bad thing to do once the pain in your ankle starts easing. The bike is a good way to build up before you start running again. When is the wharfdale Mara?
It's not actually my ankle, it's the 2nd metatarsal in my forefoot. Also my gym has just unexpectedly closed down so need to find a new one! Might get my bike out in a few days see how it feels. The W'dale is 7th June... high hopes I know, but like you I'll not rest! I will still do it if I can. ;)
