I heard him Iain but to be honest there were so many people talking when he was telling them about it that those at the back must have had difficulty in picking it up. So when it started they probably didn't know. I was about 10 m behind you(on the start line) and I could only just hear.

The most noise was off to the left of the start, so it may well have been a matter of where the loudspeakers were sited. Was a shame though.
It definatly wasn't a poor show but more a question of poor communication. I was near to IanDarkPeak and i could barely here the P.A.

It was for Stan Bradshaw, aged 97, one of the race founders (and had run it 23 times) and for Peter Dugdale aged 76, the race winner in 1957. Both of Clayton le Moors.
There is a thread about Stan Bradshaw a couple of weeks back.
The programme says Peter's grandson was the youngest competitor in this year's race.
I'm not suggesting anyone was being intentionally offensive. Ideally, you need somebody to jump up and down on top of a landrover before making that sort of announcement. Putting my old fart's hat on, though, there is a modern tendency (last 20 years or so) for people to keep talking through announcements made on sometimes ropey PA equipment.

I second that and a thousand apologies to the runner who tried to say a few words of encouragement to me after the Inglebugger CP. At that precise moment I clipped my foot on a gryke (or is it a clint?) which set off the cramp and I screamed something unpleasant in his right ear. He must have thought he'd collected a right nutter.

Ist time for doing this race and I thoroughly enjoyed it - I just managed to scrape round without getting timed out - which was fine considering the amount (or rather lack!) of training I had done. I was very impressed with the organisation and thought the whole day was fantastic. Thanks to all involved. (Although I too, did not hear when the minutes silence was supposed to start).
Looks like you're just approaching the Braithwaite Wife Hole. First time I went by it I was really tired, didn't know it was there and had to stop myself being drawn over the edge in a horrible Hitchcock 'Vertigo' moment.
Good not to see the comments about discarded wrappers, etc this year. I traced the route down off PYG after the runners had gone through and again off Ingleborough after around half the field had passed and I never saw one single item of litter. The way it should be, good show.
Yeah, I ran the route in reverse last Monday from the top of Whernside, down to Ribblehead, up and down Pen y Ghent (only following some of the route here) and then up Ingleborough and saw just one half eaten energy bar and a few spilled jelly babies and nothing else. Well done to all the runners and the 3P sweeperupperers :)Quote:
