Just checked the weather and it seems to be improving. We might start in the rain but it should brighten even if the day may be breezy.
Going to bed now as I have to get up at 4.30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck everyone today! That first pint tonight will taste good
Really enjoyed myself today- espcially in retrospect!
Heading into the wind was tough at the start but a least we had it on our backs later. Very glad it did not rain.
It was odd how some bits very very dry and others like a swamp.
Thanks to those who helped me navigate without needing to phaff with a map, especially Cath W. Also to those who chatted, which helped me through the bad patches. That last road was my downfall, I just could not run up it and was going so slowly I bet I lost about 5mins+
My first of the vasque series. So should I now try to fit in some more?
A grand day out just marred by a bit of pain. After showering surprised to have tanned lower legs! not just peat stains.
Well organised as usually. After a slow start seemed to run well to about 23 miles. Then hips and lower back were in pain and slowed to a snails pace, took me nearly 2 hours to do the last 8 miles, back in just over 6 hrs. Just lack of miles me thinks.
Thanks to Keighley and Craven for a good day out, spent most of it with Derby Tup and his Keighley train, cheers mate. Hot dogs were an excellent touch, as were all the biscuits, hot cross buns and doughnuts, think i've put on weight.
My leg, that i twatted falling down stairs, felt better towards the end, but has now siezed up, walking round like Herman Munster.
Enjoyed a couple of Guinness's in The Fleece in Haworth after, in the company of the Crumblies and a bunch of Tod Harriers, must say, anyone looking to join a 'real' club should give em a go, great bunch of folk:cool:
Ooops little sozzled.
Well done to everyone who did this race this 'year'!!!
G'night xx
HAHAHA blumming eckers, i keep doing that!!!:eek:
Blame it on the very nice sparkling wine i have at my side...
*reminds myself not to come on here when i am under the influence of alcohol*:p
Can't knock i am caring can you Master? LOL
A grand day out as ever yesterday. Loads of forumites around including IanDP, merry, Mr 1470 and JohnK. Nice to meet ultracollie and put the world to rights with Oscar too :) No cramp for some reason; suspect it could have been the pie I had in Skipton on Friday afternoon ;)
Well I got the PB 5.25.?? approx 15 minutes faster, No idea of position though. So much for the start slowly:rolleyes: The first hour I tried to run steady honest. no hope:o
Got a bit of cramp at Stoodly and had to ease back from then on with lots of cramp by the penultimate CP.
Surprising good weather which was fortunate given the number of people who didn't have waterproofs.
Where were they:confused:. I kept asking and I was desperate for something savory, Felt really sick with all that sweet stuff.
Thanks to Brett etc, it's all been said but thanks any way. see all for the Calderdale Hike
Checkpoint after Long Causeway, they were set back off the road up a track, good navigational skills needed to find them or a nose for food. Actually i got clipped and was going to set off again and somebody mentioned hot dogs, otherwise i'd have missed them too.
Well done on the PB Ian, think i was faster than last year as well, not sure what my time was, someone mentioned it was 8.05 when we set off, we shall see when the results are out;)
Excellent, i'll have to fall downstairs more often:eek:
Just waiting for my lad to come back from Heron spotting with his Grandma, then its a 5 mile recovery crawl with him, hope he's gentle with me.
Enjoyed running with you and your mates, good positive banter, 'No quitting' and 'Never walk downhill' throw in a couple of baldies and it was like being on a route march in the good old days;)
Thanks to Brett and his merry men and women for another fab day out. A bit windy for me, so if that could be sorted in next year's race planning, I'd be grateful.
Doughnuts at Mankinholes went down well, except with my mate who spent some time trying to work where the blood on his hands was coming from, before realsing it was strawberry jam.
Thanks ML, but did you notice, one more nipple each than the norm, and two extra toes:eek:.
On me or the Toddies:D
Funny you should mention jam/blood. Caught up with a chap on the climb up to top ot stairs who was obviously struggling, his chin was covered in claret. Asked him if he was ok, as you do, fine he says, its a tough one this, suddenly dawned on me he'd just had a doughnut at the last checkpoint:D
Thanks to Brett and his team for a well organised event. What a beautiful route....couldnt believe it was sooooooo windy for so long tho! Met some lovely people and had a great time. My first event of more than 26 miles....think I might well try another. Legs feel ok today after a couple of hours on the bike in glorious sunshine
I feel fine but my legs are knackered ;) Walking up the road to buy a paper this morning was more than enough exercise for the day. The soles of my feet kept me awake half the night they're so painful - I guess it's the shock of paths and roads instead of the usual bogs and tussocks!
Somehow I'd convinced myself that when I did this race 2 years ago I'd taken 8.5 hours, but on looking at the results it turns out it was actually 6 hours 43.
So I was only 15 minutes faster this year, though the course was a couple of miles longer.
Cracking day out, big taa t'Organisers & Marshalls.
My mate's wheels fell off at Stoodley, so it was a crawl back from there.
(Took a rather interesting lenghty detour to Heptonstall, all miles in't bank!)
Weather was a bonus (once out of that wind), had expected a drowning tracking forecast all week.
The donuts & cake stall at Checkpoint 9 looked ace, resisted as was saving mesen for meal at end.
First time out, hope to be back next year.
No run planned today......
Thanks Brett. Great event.
Never saw the donuts or hotdogs but I find it hard to cope with food and run so I suspect I didn't look too hard.
Easy ( haha) orienteering interclub race today over the limestone of Farleton,I bet i looked funny trying to run towards the end but I'm now hoping I won't be stiff tomorrrow.
Many thanks to all helpers on the day and all those who turned up to run and walk.

Couple of pints, something to eat, then flopped into bed!
Just like my Brother, bit of an eye opener for him, I think :D

Beat my time from last year by 1/2hour, even though i felt bloody awful around the pike, it has proven to me that you should stick it out unless you are really rough as i recovered and felt great over the last 8 miles or so. Many thanks to charlie who was on the windmill checkpoint and then ran back to the finish and paced me in.
Well done to Brett and all the team at K&C - another fine effort.
I thought the hot x buns were an interesting twist and grinding my way through one made the climb up the pike that much easier ;)
Congrats to all finishers - especially those at the back of the field - being out there for 12 hours and finishing in the dark must make for one tough day.
Thanks Brett and Team for a brilliant day, i Thought the resistance training against the wind for the the first few miles was a brilliant touch to enable us to build an appetite for the goodies on offer.
Great to meet DT, Ultra Collie and a brilliant bunch off runners all round.
Well done all.
A thousand curses on the twits(sp?) that climbed/bent the fence after Bronte Bridge while we all queued and thanks to those who joined me in the booing and to the calls of "ban em for life" (anon) :)
K&C - I thank you.
Can't believe the same young lady I saw straddling the fence (and there were only 4 or 5in the queue) also snatched the water container out of my hands at Mankinholes! Didn't think it was that time critical in a 33 mile event?
takes all sorts!
Great event again. Many thanks Brett and all K&C and scouty types.
