Christmas day running
Interested in how many people have a run on Christmas day, my non running friends think I'm weird but the dog and me generally disappear for a quick 6 miles while the rest of the house get ready (after we've peeled the veg & the dog has eaten the ends of the carrots and other sundry veg bits dropped on the floor) apart from the 365ers what do other people do? Rest or run??

Re: Christmas day running
By the time I've had breakfast & opened a few pressies I've usually drunk too much to run. Mind you, this year the dog will need an outing. After he's opened his pressies of course. And somehow I suspect it'll have to be me to take him, so 3 or 4 miles with my "christmas humbug" bobble hat on could be on the cards.

Re: Christmas day running
I will have a trot.
On my wedding day I was still out running with my Dad an hour before we were due at the church. When we got back my mum went berserk :w00t:

Re: Christmas day running
Quick run first thing 45 mins to an hour.
-
Re: Christmas day running
Running club meet up at 10am somewhere on Cannock Chase every day in the week upto Christmas, including Christmas day :)
Think my mum appreciates getting myself, my dad and brothers out of the house so she can have a bit of peace/less hassle in the kitchen!

Re: Christmas day running
Might have a barefoot trot on the beach this year if it's not too humid.
-
Re: Christmas day running
I'll probably be running to work on both Monday 24th (13:00 - 22:00) & again on Tuesday 25th (06:00 - 14:00), which is sadly not for pleasure reasons

On our wedding day we did a fell race. I got to the room to get ready and my daughter went berserk!!! I had two hours to get ready for goodness sake!! I mean, come on how long does it take to do hair, make-up and put a nice frock on? She was really mad lol
As for running on Christmas day - I hope to do a quick jog out. Certainly running on Christmas eve, new year eve and new year day though.

Re: Christmas day running
Al be running at some point. Something about xmas day being so quiet everywhere. It just feels more isolated. One of the reasons i like to run the hills is for peace and quiet from the drone of town. Xmas day seems to add to that sensation for me.

Re: Christmas day running
I'll be going for a run. I'd like to go somewhere special but any decent length run will do. At one point it looked like I'd be left high and dry for Christmas day so I'd planned an epic run to keep me occupied, I was even considering driving up to Scotland and camping so I could get some coast and mountains. As it is, I'll be sharing my Christmas and we are both going for a run.:)

Re: Christmas day running
Absolutely! I love that peace that reigns on Christmas day. I've always had a Christmas walk regardless of situation but since I became a runner, a run is the best thing for me.

Re: Christmas day running
Off to the sunny Caribbean seas!
You looked quite spiffing in your Sunday best although not convinced your alter ego comes under the super hero category.......................???
Have a cracking Xmas & see you at a few in the new year all being well!
-
Re: Christmas day running
3 miles every year - always in santa hat :)
-
Re: Christmas day running
Definitely plan something but usually between 20 mins and an hour. As no race for me on Boxing Day this year will probably do more rather than less.
-
Re: Christmas day running
Uncle Fester is my Super-hero
Have a lovely Christmas in the Caribbean - you lucky bugger - I'm hoping it's snowing in Bowness on the 27th!!

Re: Christmas day running
Usually get one in on Christmas Day evening, once it's dark and everyone's in front of the box. You feel as if you're the last man on earth. I think that it was 2004 when it put down a big dump on Christmas Day afternoon. I drove the m-i-l round to the s-i-l's for teatime. Then drove to Fell End near Scorton. It was a full moon and mine were the only footprints in 4 inches of virgin snow, all the way to the trig on Nicky Nook Fell. No headtorch needed!

Re: Christmas day running
I'd be in serious trouble if I tried to get out for an hour! :w00t:
In my mind though, I might have time for something like what Mark is doing! If I can get up early enough that is!

Re: Christmas day running
I usually have a short run on Christmas day afternoon prior to dinner with a sprout assisted longer run on Boxing day.

I've got two kids, the little 'un will have us up at about 6ish, so I'll probably have a brew get a quick run in after that and be back for my little lad being up about 7ish.

Only one Christmas Day missed in 30 years, and I was bed-ridden. Pre-wedding run with my brother, reciprocated on his wedding day. And next year I'll be out first thing before my daughter gets hitched, we are all entitled to some quality time of our own!

Is it the usual Duathlon route? 1st roundabout, 2nd exit, second roundabout turn back? and then up to Jubilee Tower and across? It's been a while.....

I allways go for a training run on Christmas day without fail:thumbup:

Re: Christmas day running

Re: Christmas day running
this year will be the 8th consecutive christmas that me and one of my best buddies will have met at 730 a.m. for a run around Castle Eden Dene, one of the Norths hidden gems. We have had some amazing runs over the years, sometimes in brilliant powder snow conditions, and it doesn't half set you up for the day ahead :) can't wait for this years, don't think it'll be a white one like :/

Re: Christmas day running
I'll be out for at least an hour. Having adopted two rescue collies last year, I'm a fully paid up member of the 365 club. They don't believe in rest days :p

Re: Christmas day running

Re: Christmas day running

Forget all that training lark Iain R, flop a roos on the couch and watch Singin' in the Rain.

Re: Christmas day running
Always. Mrs Nutkey used to head off to her parents on xmas eve, now she leaves in the morning with the kids. I run over to the in-laws and get there in time for a shower and lunch. One year I took the running buggy, because she forgot to take all the presents over! They keep moving house, so now it's 9 miles away, though last year I extended it with a detour over some muddy fields which involved quite a lot of climbing fences and trespassing on government sites*, mostly because the paths on the grounds didn't much resemble the ones on the map. Or maybe I'm just crap at map-reading.
* Some sort of agricultural thing. Not the sort with armed guards.

Re: Christmas day running
I've managed to successfully negotiate an trip out to some hills for a 10miler, although at the cost of wearing a Santa hat
Usually have to hit the roads, so bonus
