I know this is just a wind up thread by Aunt Sally but how about run races only 3 years out of 4, have a fallow year where we don't race??

Huh? If the race is off the beaten track, a fallow year isn't needed and if its on the beaten track, 99% of the time the track is a well used walkers route.

The real answer is unfortunately worse still - the national trust or national parks authority will eventually turn all of the walkers paths into slabbed staircases
