Good piece I thought. Just pointing out the benefits of cross country running. Well we all know that don't we, SEL and Red Rose League- running round Boggart Hole Clough in the 6inch mud in January

Thanks guys! - I was trying to get the leaders, plus making sure I snapped the GB runners as well. I was using my Nikon D80 with 70-300mm Tamron lens.

I didn't fancy rushing round the course getting different vantage points since: a) it was very crowded, and I'd found a good bend as the runners crested the Haggis Knowe hill, and b) more importantly I was suffering from an horrific variant of Spanish food poisoning that meant running around would have been a very bad idea!

Thank you for the great pictures of world cross country. My grand-daughter ran in the senior women's race so we were desperately looking for some photos. Incidently we live in Sydney,Australia. Melinda, who is profoundly deaf was placed 41st . Arrangements were made for her to be put in a position where she could see the starter but unfortunately a photographer stood between her and the starter and she was left standing there. She is going to France tomorrow to compete in the University cross country so we are hoping that she will have better luck this time with the start.Thank you again, we are very grateful.

But I thought that, almost uniquely among middle-distance runners of his generation, Coe did not compete in cross country at the height of his career?

I've just watched footage of the Ladies race again & it is clear that your grand-daughter had a poor start. 41st is however a brilliant result.

It's irrelevant who it is. If the problem in athletics is corruption, then kids must be turning away from football in their droves. England head coach being investigated for witholding evidence in a trial, clubs being investigated for illegal payments to agents, no proper drug testing program.... It's hardly a model sport?

Dominion I agree with you in part.Like football there is no proper testing procedures(drugs or otherwise)in athletics.

What I don't agree with is the claim that it's corrupt to pay agents fees, or to avoid paying taxes.I realised years ago when they proposed increasing the regulations in football, that it would create a 'blackmarket.'

If the authorities had let things be,clubs wouldn't have to do things via the backdoor.
