    Re: Three Peaks 2008

Finished in 4hr1.56 4 mins faster than my PB.

Did not know what to expect as I have had lots of injury and trained erratically, also missed most of the training races to get an idea of form.

Pleased overall though would have liked to have broken four hours (sure I can do it now). Took it steady overall in anticpation of the last descent - felt tired going up Ingleborough, so I slowed down, lost 9 mins according the split time guide for 4 hours (I was 3 mins up at the Hill Inn). Got to top felt much better, saw a team mate ahead put my foot down and..... nothing happened, died the usual death people seem to coming of Ingleborough.

Think I will be retiring for a while now to get my biomechanics and ongoing injuries sorted.

Well organised day (though could have done with shoe changing stations between track and fell) , great atmosphere, great goody bag - chocolate was much enjoyed by family.

Yep 2:46 on Whernside - slowed down after that.

Had to get up early and wander around this morning, bit stiff.

    Re: Three Peaks 2008

I was very disappointed as I finished in 5.07 after having to walk in all the from the top of Ingleborough; my left knee had been painful but runnable coming down from Whernside (it was ok going up Ingleborough although not much running was involved) but as I tried to run away from the Ingleborough checkpoint it just wouldn't bend properly and was very painful.

Many thanks to the runner who stopped and gave me some pain killers, it was much appreciated.

All that said as I was driving home to Brighton, after some more painkillers from the St Johns ambulance people (who reckon I have done something to a ligament in the back of my knee), my mood began to lift. Now in retrospect I really enjoyed this; great course, competitors, organisation and support. So between now and next year I'm going to strengthen my knees and ankles (anybody got a second hand wobble board they don't want?) and return refreshed to dispel my Ingleborough descent demons.

Last thankyous to Alan (Abbey Runners) and Di for putting me the night before, to all the MK runners and supporters who clapped me in at the end (apologies for making you wait), and congratulations to everybody who made it round.

    Cheers - Raymond

I've just had a look at the guide times for 4 hours - I finished in 3:58:25. The time in the guide to Pen-Y-Ghent looks fast (37min), but total time looks slow to Ribblehead (1:53) - I was 11 minutes up on this and felt I had a good second half, so I think you'd struggle to get anywhere near 4 hours if you took that long to get there. The guide time up Inglebrough is far too fast (28min) - I had a really good climb and did this in 35. Sounds like I made it past you on the way up, but we were pretty close all the way round.

Great event by the way - well done to the organisers !

I think the guide times have already been dismissed. The only reliable guide times are those extracted from previous winners' times. I have done 4.00 finishes and you need to be on PyG around 37-39 and R. around 1.36-1.40.

It cannot be said too many times that the PPP starts after R. You have to be able to power up the two serious climbs of W and I and have to have enough in the tank to race down from I at the end. Basically this is a downhill run yet Jethro did it in 28 mins and the last man to finish took 1 hour 15 mins ie over 2 1/2 times longer. Compare their times to R: 1.14 and 2.03: only 66% longer.

Thumbs up Re: Three Peaks 2008

Pheweee ! So that was the 3 Peaks 2008.

Was disappointed in finishing 6 mins slower than last year at the finish but having slept on it realised i achieved my fastest split to the Hill inn - 3:12:52 compared to last years 3:19:35. Was slowing down on the ascent of Whernside but even than acheived a faster split ascending & descending W compared to last year. Admittedley did have to walk most of the way up to Ingleborough & went down with the dreaded cramp. Managed to inch my way down of the initial rocky stuff before starting to jog once it got smoother & used sheer bloody mindness to continue all the way to the finish.

A fantastic event & great to see so many forumites including for the 1st time - Mountain goatess, Ginger whinge, Derby tup.
Great support throughout the course including our very own Nourh, Merrylegs,Dominion & countless others.
