    Re: Three Peaks 2008

I threw the towel in at the Hill inn. 36:30 up PyG and 56 mins to ribblehead then I was fine going up Whernside till about 100m from the top and suddenly felt very sick. Tryed to run off the top of Whernside and there was nothing there by the time I'd got to the hill in I had decided I was stopping just wasn't to be my day yesterday. I was on for about 3:45 at the top of whernside I'll be back probably in a couple of years when I've sorted my training proper. I'm off to concentrate on some short races and get my speed up and mileage up in training. It was another of those things thats made me realise I have to put the work in if I am going to be as good as I think I should be.

Detritus, that sounds alot like total energy loss, rather than lack of stamina. Did you take energy gels and snacks with you?

Sounds familiar Detritus21! I did the race last year off hardly any fell training (been on the fells about 3 months) and thought i'd just do the race for experience and was very happy with the 3hrs 55mins. Over the past 6 months I have trained hard for the race, but completely had nothing all the way around, coming down Penyghent I knew I was going to have a bad one. I just thought I would put it down to experience and try again next year! (4hrs 16mins). Hope to see you all at the British Champ's down here in Wales.

Great day. That was my first 3Ps and I'm really pleased with my 4:42 time. The spectators with drinks & jelly babies kept me going. Organisation was excellent, except for the tea & coffee queues - we don't all want a pint of guinness & a bag of crisps at the finish. Where were the plump ladies with a table loaded with homemade cakes??

What a good race and some cracking people running it.
    It dulled the pain.
    Thanks to the organisers too.
Better have a look at my blisters.
Good to see you again Stanny after the race. Well done with a brilliant time!

I am really not setting myself up as a PPP expert but one of the great things about the wonderful PPP organisation is that they carry drinks to R. and HI.

Practically one cannot take in too much energy during the race and not having to carry gels, drinks etc is a great help. I drank 4 small tetra-packs of apple juice, ate 3 gels and drank 1/2 litre of tomato juice from two plastic bottles. The latter is not high in calories but it is a fluid and contains salt and I think this offsets cramp. I had no cramp on the run down from I.

Loved the cowbell, it lifted my spirits each time I heard it, thank you very much, made for a surreal descent off INGL, thought I was in Alps for second. Brilliant!!
