    Re: Three Peaks 2008

Just too much for the knee to handle on the day. The descent from Whernside caused me to have a few too many 'ouch' moments ! So, regrettably I ditched at Hill Inn. Thing was I didnt feel too bad at that pint either. Today my legs feel like they do after a training session, so must have taken it way too easy.

What a great day though. Well done to everyone who competed and to all the marshalls and organisers.

Highlight of the day for me was the boiled spuds at the bottom of the final climb up the face of Whernside. Thanks to whoever from Bowland was handing those out, I now have a new run food !

Another moment was at the stream crossing at Whernside. A lady runner from 't'over seas' was trying to pick her way across the larger rocks and teetering, so being the true british gent I just walked in and held her hand across the other side. And do you know what she said !

    Bugger All !!!!!!!

Does anyone know how AJF went on, I saw him on the climb up Whernside. Hope his ankle held out for him.

Wow, nice to be running again, but maybe the 3 peaks was a bit ambitious after no real exercise for 6 weeks laid up with a dodgy ankle.

Oh well, whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger. 4.17 in the end but wasn't a great run. The descents I was very nervous and my ankle was still heavily taped. Felt the lack of training in the second half. Suppose I should be happy with that considering.

On the plus side, the ankle is actually feeling better than it did on the Friday? Think I broke down all the scar tissue and now have full movement back in it.

Never seen so many people suffer from cramp before? People literally dropping on the floor mid stride in front of me. Glad it wasn't me as it looked bloody painful for some people.

Wife and friends came down. They were very impressed and think we are all mad hard b@stards and couldn't believe the speed that the leaders came down pen y gent (then again neither can I!)

Flapjack: I've transferred this topic over to the 'General' section, as I think this is a fertile area for further research!

Some more pics here, mostly of Rochdale runners but there are other folk around us and we took some at the awards ceremony too.

After the front runners came through, I came off Wherneside and rode back to the start by this time the Winners where just about finishing. Testament to my cycling ability.

I then had a wander onto inglebugger to watch people descending off the last hill.

I really enjoyed myself it was great to see a good few forumites again, I've felt a bit off the scene as of late. So really enjoyed having a natter and what not

Race wise most people seem really happy with there performances with some exceptional performances and improvements. Most forumites seemed to be running well and in one piece coming off inglebugger.

Well done to my mates Murdoch,Notonurtelly and dunc on there first three peaks. Good stuff chaps.

Hope I'll be on the starting line next year.

Manhar and IanDarkPeak I have some items of your clothing and well done chaps

    Cheers

    jamie,

Much appreciated your support including the drink in the run in - I was too wasted by then to improve on a disappointing 4:26 .Still had FLM in my legs and took the Sell Gill - Ribblehead section far too quickly. Cramp then took hold after Whernside and never let up. Thanks to all marshals and other forum members for their support. I was the runner bringing a touch of commercialism to the event with my name plastered on my club vest -a remnant from London that wont wash off.
