    Re: Todays Injuries

Oh I'm just totally gutted as I've entered 5 races between now and July. Was really looking forward to getting a good time in the Wharfedale as my fitness was improving lots the last few weeks. Also the Lyke Wake race was my main aim for improving last years time but now I won't get the training in needed for that! Will have to find something good to aim for in September I think.

I bet you'll feel fine in a couple of days - don't give in to the pain

    Re: Todays Injuries

Well having been completely crippled on Tuesday and Wedenesday, limping but feeling a little better on Thursday and walking okay by Friday, albeit still with my knee feeling somewhat painful, it was marginally better again today such that I thought I'd try a small 3 mile run..........

I got 100 yards and had to walk - my bastard knee just hurt too much. The knee no longer feels locked when I bend it and I no longer limp, having been driving or sitting down a while. It does hurt like fcuk though if I run and put any weight on it . Now Wharfedale looks in jeopardy too.

I'll try again in a couple of days I think.

Don't give in to the pain you said Stolly!!!
Sorry to hear your knee's not good... looks like we're both headed for the knackers yard instead of the Wharfedale! I definately won't be there or any other races I had planned for the next 6 weeks!
I went to the place that I usually run past all the picnickers today (I usually curse them and call them lazy b*****ds ... but instead I joined them...I had a picnic! Gaymers Pear cider yummy!!!

oh dear stolly and MG - not good on the knee front.

I'll join in, as I tripped over a tree today and my knee is now rather looking rather red and bruised and stiffening up nicely!! was still able to run on it fine earlier so hopefully nothing serious although picnicking does sound appealling MG!

    Re: Todays Injuries

Im enjoying filling my saturdays with normal things whilst Im injured. Im planning on decorating my whole house. It just goes to show how much time it takes up.

I was lost a first on the weekends, where usually I would be camping and out running / walking in Lakes.

Went swimming last night, i find it really hard, could only put two lengths of crawl together before taking a breather and doing another two

Im gonna focus on the swimming and improving that and by the time Im up to 40 lengths without stopping, my knee's will be fine for a few miles run.

    Thats the plan anyway.

    Thanks for asking, MG.
Started running again this week and it's loads better, but I don't feel entirely confident about it yet; it seems to be one of those things that niggles along and can flare up. I'm wary about doing anything very long, or very tough, and I'm especially worried about pounding the foot at faster pace on road. I'm trying a short race tomorrow and then deciding about a whole crop of races coming up, including the Bronte 5 miler (road!) on Thursday, and Wharfedale on Saturday (though I've only entered the half marathon this year, for a change.)

It's really hard to resign yourself to being injured and out of action, isn't it?
Especially as there are always races in the pipeline that we're looking forward to. You build up to them for weeks beforehand and it's hard to accept that you're going to miss them. By definition, we fell/distance runners are tenacious buggers; we don't give anything up easily.
I find it's easier once I've genuinely accepted that I'm injured and stop harbouring crazy ideas of a miraculous recovery that flies in the face of medical science. It's then possible to set a realistic target and find ways of keeping a core fitness ticking over in the meantime.
    Best of luck MG.

Any more room in the injured corner please?

My knees are still not right and I've not run now for 5weeks. Feet are still very sore from Yoredale too

Good luck everyone - as Jamie says first couple of weeks is worst

I notice your last posting was timed at 3.31am, DT.
Are your knees keeping you awake? (Curse that chattering patella...)

Seriously, best wishes for recovery. What's the prognosis?
