I don't know why you're all so worried about the route. Unless you're planning to be at the front all you have to do is follow the leader.
I hope everyone intending to recce the course has read the following paragraph in the race information, particularly the sentence "at other times please keep to recognised paths".
Competitors are mostly free to choose their own route but in certain areas routes have been agreed to match agricultural and environmental needs, so where markers are provided, please follow them. These include the ascent and descent of Pen-y-Ghent, the route through Nether Lodge, the ascent of Whernside and the route across Ingleborough summit which are mandatory. The special arrangements we have made for the use of paths apply on race day only. At other times please keep to recognised paths. Follow the country code, keep dogs under control, use gates and stiles, do not alarm farm animals and take your litter home.
