Yup! Until someone runs past you with a Hope and then you wonder what you did to be cast into the outer darkness.

    Re: Which head torch

At the risk of being lynched I am going to try to ask a simple question

I'm willing to spend upto £90 on a head torch to use for night fell running and I've been through the pages and pages of opinion and I'm a little more informed as a result but I'm still none the wiser on what to plump for...

Seems that the main options are.

Petzl Myo XP - light too narrow, fiddly? - 42 quid
    Silva - dodgy circuitry? - 60 quid
Hope Vision 1 - cumbersome? switches off when spent - 88 quid
AlpKit - great value but you'll want to buy another one - 12 quid!!!

I've added the negatives as I understand them plus the prices.
    Question is: which one?

    Cheers.

crowhill, I think it depends what you want to do. If you want to just go and run steady in the dark, either alone or with a few friends, an Alpkit, Tikka Plus or Mylo XP would be fine. If you want to run quickly or are even half-serious about racing after dark then the brighter your torch the better and unless you have a Hope or similar you'll be seriously disadvantaged

just a qiuck point, it doesn't matter which head torch you have as long as you can navigate in the dark..

Not sure why you think the Myo XP is fiddly? No problems with mine. The diffuser is quite useful for where you know the path is decent and just need a decent spread of light.

Had a Sylva LX for about 3 months now with no problems. Seems to be a bit brighter than the Myo and with a wider beam which is handy. Battery last for ever but can seem a bit heavy, better when in a bum bag rather than it little pouch with elastic belt.

The trick Breezy is to ensure that you keep the person with the Hope a short distance behind you to get the benefit of the beam.

Worked well for me last night.

Anyway, what happened to you? You past me on the way over to the Badger Stone but seem to have finished behind me. I got past a few who couldn't seem to get a decent line between the stand of pines and White Wells.

Enjoyed it very much. Thanks Brett.
