Well pleased I went to the physio today. I have strained my soleous muscle but more importantly he checked the flexibilty of said muscle and it was crap. The excercises he has given me will improve the flexibility and hopefully stop re-occurences of this injury (now the 5th time in same area and 1st time this has been pinpointed). 2 weeks off, massage and excercise and should be all new and improved!!

    Thanks.

I've had a couple of stress fractures (was advised to rest etc..) but to be honest I just kept running through them with some pain killers... and they were better in 3 - 4 weeks ....worked OK for me

    Hurrah for you.........well done?!

Am too sore/scared of worsening matters to run at present.

Did you get Xrays done? ............physio advises me that the bony damage may/may not be visible, so what is the point?!
I suppose it will check for healing and rule out anything sinister, or non union of fracture, or whatever.
Am swimming in the meantime, but pushing from the wall is a bit of a bummer for the foot.....a real annoyance to have what rhythm is there broken.

Any probs since you healed, huf&puf??

    Hi Chuggger

yes, I had xrays done, but these were about 2 weeks into injury and obviously at that point not going away so thinking that something might be wrong. On Xray they could see the callous formation on the bone indicating healing, so knew there was / had been a stress fracture.

No problems at all with the stress fracture since.
Have another foot problem though that is related to my having bunions and have just read today that bunions may increase risk of metatarsal stress fractures!!

This is quite a good informative site: www.runnersrescue.com/

    Hope you're better soon

Many thanks huf&puf, for your experience and the link!
Had my Xray yesterday eve..........a fantastic NHS service, by the by!!

Radiographer commented "no obvious separation, but I would keep off it".
So, what to make of that........until a radiologist's report reaches my GP??

I have been swimming so much that my shoulder is now sore.........if there is a humane way to put me out of my misery, I may have to consider it!!

Am I just too old for all of this???????????
