For goodness sake! Don't you think you're getting this a little out of context and perspective, and taking a rather extreme position.

From what I can see, there are a couple of, in my view pretty innoculous and light-hearted posts (I assume it was posts 225 and 227 on the Borrowdale thread) that appear to have offended you, Balin and Old Whippet. These were followed by post 234 therein.

The danger you are taking is to encourage exactly the opposite to what I think you want to achieve. An extreme position encourages people to react with the opposite extreme...and I'm suprised that this hasn't already happened.

Maybe we're just an accomodating bunch after all eh...

As a new comer to the forum, basically, I suggest that comments that seem to be potentially offensive in tone, and excluding in practice make me less rather than more likely to hang around here.
At work I actively deal with this, because not hanging around is not an option. The 'no sense of humour' 'p.c. brigade' and 'you don't have to read it' defences are predictable.
I was pleased to see Balin voice what I was thinking, and am encouraged to see that some here can debate it seriously

Predictable but perfectly valid, grumpytits. I thought the Borrowdale comments were fairly tame to be honest. I happen to think that some are making mountains out of molehills but hey this is the mountain running forum not a molehill running chatroom....i guess

I thought they were quite tame too, Fell Monster, but it's a cumulative thing. And 'you don't have to read it' response is not perfectly valid when the thread it titled Borrowdale. (as opposed to a thread titled 'jokes about gays and vaseline' which I would probably give a miss).

I agree I think the original comments were tame. The reaction to them being challenged was interesting. My later comments were in the light of a wider discussion about diversity and in some cases an attempt to answer some questions other forum members had raised. I have found the discussion useful it has helped me clarify my thinking around the issue and I hope it has provided some food for thought. After all we are fell runners so we get more time to think than most. Hey Tom- don't worry about it, it's gone.

But that was the point it was not potentially "pretty much nothing" in terms of language yes it was tame, but in terms of inference it could be deemed offensive to certain groups.

Also is not the the "grow up" comment potentially a childish response? If not in what way does it add to the debate?

Grouse, I just mean, being out on your own for hours at a time,running in a beautiful place, no-one in sight your mind wanders. Most people are doing stuff, watching telly or diverting themselves in some way anything rather than let themselves think. Alternatively I'm trying to breathe, stay alive, not fall over again, work out where I am and desperately hoping I'm not last!
Anyhow Bowscale and Glendermalkin for me now and the suns come out! Don't forget everyone we have much more in common than we differ about.

I think one of the many good things about this forum is that is largely self-policing. I know several regular posters on here agree with this. Therefore I'm not convinced we need occasional visitors suggesting what we can or cannot post
