Seconded. It was quite surreal and dramatic climbing Catstye with the mist forming wispy trails and then up into the cloud for Helvellyn. This is the first time I've been up Helvellyn. Not much of a view! The marshall who told me that St Sundays Crag was a 'piece of cake' was possibly contravening the trades description act.Originally Posted by Clive

How did some runners end up taking the wrong route away from the stile and overshooting the finish? My route was a bit like going for a run in Mordor but i located the fell gate ok.

oh dear....might have been me and 4 others taking a detour which added an unwelcome 10 minutes from hole in wall to finish....Couldnt believe it! Kept thinking "this doesnt look quite right" and ended up miles away..... NOooooooooooooo!
Still a bloody good race this. Thanks to organisers and marshalls and tea ladies. The egg sarnies are equal to those at Cockley Beck on County Tops. LOVELY!
A few of us also went walkies..........towards Rydal probably added on about 15 minutes oooooooooooppppps.
Managed the double, Helvellyn tri today. Ok I was 262 out of 500-600 so very very happy with that.

At least it set me up with instant excuses for today.
Have to say tho, quads just slightly sensitive at the mo!!!! I'll try to make them better after wtaching the cricket with some beers and chips, ahhhhhh, it doesn't get much better!

Recced most of the route this last friday - brilliant run and brilliant weather. Trouble was, when I got to the stone barn at the bottom of Blind Cove the race map showed the route to go straight across the field (i.e. due north) while the sign on the barn read 'no path'.
Is this route only permissible on the race day?
As I didn't want to trespass and risk any ill feeling from the land owner I headed up Grisedale and found a foot bridge near Broomhill Plantation and then doubled back.
On race day you enter the field by the barn and wade accross the river, personally i'd rather have gone down to the first bridge but there would have been walls to jump over after. The route is the route at the end of the day.
