Re: 3 Shires - Car parking

A few photos now at http://www.clayton-le-moors-harriers....php?album=153

Sorry for the delay - computer issues stopped me downloading from my camera, but all sorted now. Not very good quality due to the conditions and also mainly due to the fact I'm not very good with the camera!!

I did spot a few forumites though - definately got Marvin, but its a bit blurred!!

    Re: 3 shires

I'm not doing the race but am going to Langdale (from Altrincham) the previous weekend (11th). If you don't get a better offer then PM me - I'll probably be passing through Broughton where the organiser lives, or could leave it at the 3 Shires pub or ODG if the organiser is happy with that. It may need one or two emails/phone calls to sort out!

    Three Shires 2010

Looking forward to this next weekend. Did it for the first time last year as a "Langdale substitute" in a championship year (hoping to do both this time).
Looking for a few tips on route:
    (1) Last year I started climbing up Wetherlam quite early, whilst others seemed to go along teh track further before turning left. Is any ascent better than the other?
    (2) What is the best way to come off Blisco? Is it to go back on yourself and then essentially go East? I had real trouble finding that route down to Blea Tarn.
    (3) I also seemed to spend too much time on Lingmoor! Once you're at the checkpoint, do you drop straight down or go along the top further and then drop down?
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I've always found the route to Blea Tarn tricky, and have chosen to latch onto one of many who know the route well. Start looking out for a likely candidate on the way up to Blisco. This makes real sense if the clag is down.

    Three Shires Race

    This just received from Selwyn

Three Shires Race : Parking and Start

Our parking fields are in a very bad state and its continuing to rain heavily in the valley. This means that once again we shall have to use Hodge Close Quarry for parking on Saturday.

There will be marshalls / signs from the main Ambleside - Coniston road and you will need to allow 45 minutes extra travelling time ( including a 25 minute walk which gets very wet in places - wellies recommended!). There will be a £2 charge for parking which the marshalls will collect.

Please do not try to park anywhere else in the valley - we have good relations with our neighbours and we want to keep it that way!

    * There will be no Junior races this year*

We shall have a large tent at the start and the usual tea and cakes after the race. Pete Bland will be in attendance at the race start and we urge you to stick around for the presentation. We'd like to keep the usual atmosphere in these difficult circumstances!

    The Start
To further add to our worries we have discovered that the County Council are going to replace the footbridge 300 metres into the race and there will be no bridge next weekend! The river is currently (like it?) waist deep and so we plan to walk you over the very narrow Slaters Bridge and start the race on the track on the south side.

    Sorry for all the disruption!

    Selwyn
