A slow descent down to Blea Tarn and most of the bleeding had stopped by then so I decided to crack on and finish the race, I would like to apologise to anyone who heard me swearing and cursing, I was a bit mad with myself. Think I finished around 3:10(ish), so am a bit fed-up, am sure I could have dipped under 3 hours had it not been for this slight impediment. I was one of the "walking wounded" at end, I'm very grateful to the kind St Johns folks who patched me up.

I had the pleasure of some neat TCP squirted into the hole by a friend (a doctor) before I set off for home, then sat for 5 hours in A & E before getting home around 0200 with an even bigger hole in my leg. They x-rayed it and found some bits of cumbrian fell under the skin, so cut all the jagged edges of skin off then scrubbed it out, quite character-building I thought. Feel like I've been steam-rollered today and have a codeine-hangover from all the painkillers I was given, but no real harm done, most of the swelling has gone down. Think Whernside next Saturday is out of the question though.
sorry to hear about your drama martyn hope the leg heals quickly, and everyone elses bumps n scrapes there seems to be quite a few!

oh and my apologies to the blonde lady fell runner I crashed with on the descent from lingmell. Grey vest with red trim (what club is that?). She slipped onto @r$e in front of me, then I did too but i slid down the hill and somehow slid through her!

Really enjoyed the race but struggled badly with cramp on the way up to Lingmoor. For what it's worth my Mudclaws were great, except on wet rock (which my sore / bruised arse proves!) but as someone else said - what is?!
Thought I would see Gaynor today (it was out club's 30th anniversary do this afternoon) but it turns out she's still in hospital! They had to put her under general anaesthetic to clean her leg up and are now keeping her in for a few days to make sure the anti-biotics are working ok! Sounds like she's not the only one who was in the wars though - hope you're on the mend soon Martyn!

Amazing views...was very slow, first time doing the race, not looking forward to my toenails falling off. The "Black Run" off Blisco to Blea Tarn was the hardest bit especially with cramp. My 1 inch cut on the hand is nothing in comparison to others...

If any one knows kate/katie from CLEM, she lent me a whistle, and I'd like to get it back to her, if you are reading this can you PM me? Cheers. If you know her and she doesn't read this can you get her to PM me? cheers SNTB

Blinking heck, I hope she gets sorted out! I got a local anaesthetic while they scrubbed it all out and snipped all the dead skin off, didn't get antibiotics though. Hope it all heals quickly and I don't need 'em!

OOh poor you. I was the lady (I use that term loosely, more like cave woman covered in mud, blood, snot, matted hair etc)you apologised to for swearing on the road at the bottom of Lingmoor and I said "Go ahead swear all you like!" you then slipped over again in the field and swore again. You must have been in agony. Well done for finishing. The hospitl bit pust have been horrible too. Last time i was in kendal they left me freezing, cold and wet for several hours, looking down at me as it was all self induced. You will be back, enjoy a few days rest and remember in the fells you are amongst friends.

Thanks Maggie Yes, I'd forgotten about that second slip in the field ... I suppose I was trying too hard after my earlier accident and as I pressed on towards the finish my injured leg just didn't support me properly, it just gave way and I went tumbling over.

And you're right, I really did feel like I was among friends - everyone was very kind.

    Re: Three Shires

Just a quick one on trainers, I felt like my Mudclaw 333s weighted a tonne when I was runnnig and I started wondering whether something slimmer/simpler might get rid of water quicker, like a Walsh Elite maybe.

Don't want to start a big kit debate again, but I thought something was interesting that I overheard when waiting to be called from the field to the start line. Someone commented that we were moving slowly and the person he was with said, they're doing kit checks. The first person says, oh no. 2nd person: 'Why, what haven't you brought?' 1st person, 'I've only got Pertex.'

I was pretty surprised that he was so relaxed about that and also that he'd done it at all. Disappointing.

Don't want to be negative, though. It was a brilliant race and a great day. Appreciation to all involved.

That was hard work - don't know how everyone managed to set such a fast pace at the start and not fall to pieces before the end! Other than the slog up Wetherlam I enjoyed it though, until the final ascent up Lingmoor when I got cramp big time, was just pleased to finish. Not sure of my time as I forget to check when we started, but I finished about 14:50, my partner about 20 minutes later. We were quite pleased given we've not done any running at all since July, so followed it up with a 22 miler the next day. Possibly not the best way to prepare for the RAB next weekend
