Even more frustrating than not being there, Carl put in three impossibly quick legs in the annual club relay event the day before, and passed me and everyone else from the back in the main fell leg. Taking a blatantly illegal shortcut through a wall in the Howgills didn't get me anywhere near, and I dread to think what he could do if he prepared for these races in a 'proper' manner.
