I wasn't rushing to judgement. I don’t have any problem with the manner of your argument about Dylan and Newman.
    It’s just that:
    “Shallow, glib and wrong.
I will assume you have every Dylan and Newman album, dozens of reference books, lyric books, go and see them both in concert every time they perform in the UK here...or you would not venture an opinion.”

Sounded like a god dispensing thunderbolts from Mount Olympus.

We vulgar enthusiasts should not meekly offer our opinions on the fellrunner music thread, lest our reading on the chosen subject be less than the mandatory dozen approved reference books?

Tempest is dire, Dylan has been composing by numbers for a decade and his performances are lamentable; although his band is sublime

Harps and Angels is as brilliant as anything Newman has ever done and his performances are still worth driving from Ilkley to Gateshead for.

Dylan, after Presley, will aways be the second most important artist to emerge in "rock music" but an interesting, perceptive song writer now he is not.

In fact Robert Hunter co-wrote every song on Dylan's Together through Life (except one) and he co-wrote the opening (and only fresh) track, Duquesne Whistle, on Tempest.

Bob was great, maybe the greatest but no more.
Glib maybe, but probably proportionate to the arrogance of saying so and so is indisputably the best. Of course they're not. It's just opinion. The fact you've read lots of books (congratulations on that, by the way) is neither here nor there.

As for driving to Gateshead from Ilkley to see ol' Randy, I wouldn't have driven to Otley, but each to his own, eh?
