Tried the better descent on post 109 but having not recce'd it, I did not perform to my best and ended up through a boggy line to Maiden moor.

If you dont like the descent of dalehead, try this:

Use the path headed towards honister
After about 500m swing left and
take a sweeping simicircle arc to the left down grass
which is only steep for about 200ft descent, and good ground all the way.
after about another 400m you hit a path which goes up from the tarn
and heads towards honister - follow this to the right of the tarn and
onto the ascent towards maiden moor

And you can run this as fast as your legs will go.

It is used on the borrowdale race.

I have no doubt that a good rough descender would beat this line by going
    straight down.

But I have equally little doubt that for most of the rest it is quicker.

When I do this it takes me about 7 mins to get to the tarn, and I
am an old fatty who cant be bothered to try to run quick any more.

Not many beat that time gong down the rough route.

Well, I tried and if recce'd feel I could massively improved up on it.

    Can anyone help the bobbies?

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact the Operational Support Unit at Cumbria Police on 101, quoting log 79 of the 19th April 2014.

Hi Stagger. After half a dozen borrowdales and a couple of TWAs, I'm convinced that the best line is to start down the main track down to Dalehead Tarnand take a ribbon of grass to the right of it after 200 metres straight down. It feels wrong, too far left, but it pops out perfectly at the bottom. I always make up ground on ppl going the other way, ie well to the right, and it's good ground with few hidden rocks albeit somewhat steep. Try it

    How many ran?
70 started the Teenager and about 160 ish the Anni W, about 130 didn't make the start, mainly of the Anni W. If memory serves me correct.

Hope the people in the accident are ok, it looked a nasty one. Made the decision to leave the A66 and ended up in gridlocked country lanes. Did the sat nav and it said 11 miles to Stair, it's now 10am. Looked at wife and said I'm running to the race, she called me words I will not repeat on the forum and give me the look that only women can give. So it's full kit on, bumbag fully loaded and unfortunately fell shoes for some horrible road running. I kept my vest covered, didn't wanna look a complete dick running down the A66. I was flying down the road and my feet were protesting. Got 7 miles down the road and my wife pulls alongside. Made the race and totally bonked at the top of Robinson, completed the race in 2hr. In hindsight I should of stayed in car but it looked like we were going nowhere fast. Was it a good idea to run to the race? At the time yes, once racing, no...many thanks to all involved, cracking route, organisation and food...cheers.

Great effort Daz - apologies for the no show Wynn.
Nothing to do with the accident, it was WPette. Booked her in and the wife - I was due to stay and look aftre the little ones.
WPette got tickets for McBusted tonight in Liverpool so we passed and went to Rivington with the juniors
I think I should disown her

I took that line by mistake and ended overtaking a few people, so I'm inclined to agree!

Brilliant race, well organised and a great atmosphere. The stew and beer at the end was greatly appreciated. First time I've done it (the Teenager that is) and naively thought it'd be plain sailing from the top of Robinson...
