Round Rotherham 50

If the weather in Rotherham is anything like it is here in Mid Wales, I hope the lads and lasses still retain their sense of humour after 30 miles

Will have been a long hard day out, I'm sure they will stagger in wet, cold but very happy.

I've just got back and the weather is atrocious, rain and a biting wind, even sleet for a while, It snowed locally for a while also.

Fed flapjack, mince pies and jelly babies to a cast of thousands...

Wolds Ranger and Old un were going well. As were Daz and Emmi.
Madeline passed shortly after with Derby Tup not far behind.

Jamie where were you? I waited for ages.Was your friend slowing you down.

I was appauled by the lack of kit that some were carrying, was there a kit check? The number of runners that ran past with out hat, gloves and a waterproof, I'm not talking about the relay runners as 6 mile is ok with less kit but people doing 50 miles when the forecast was for cold, wet and windy to be running in a pertex or a £5 'waterproof' is just crazy.

Rant over, those that finish deserve a big pat on the back because it was hard going today. well done all.

If anyone set out to do 50 in those conditions without hat, gloves, waterproofs .............. I doubt they will ever make the same mistake again .

Mark Ghillie (sp?) won in 6:17, awesome time.

My missus won the womens in 8:22. She was 14th.

Mark Hartel did 7:40 ish.

Well done basil - didn't see you there. You'd probably gone by the time I finished! I got value for money - almost 11 hours. I didn't see the sleet though. Weather wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Body aches all over like nothing I can remember!!! Oh the joys. Anyway, I'm chuffed to finish.

Matt Giles who won was something like 4 seconds away from the course record (though obviously the course has changed slightly since then). And he certainly didn't seem to know where he was going at the start - twice he was called back in the first few miles. You'd expect someone in the group that set off quick from the start to know where they are going or at least have a headtorch between them (I'm guilty as charged)! Awesome run from Matt, I think his lead was over an hour.

Mark Hartell was closing down on me at the end, had to hammer that cycle path at the end. He did 7:42: (30?) I think, about 15 seconds behind me. At least I got round quick enough for the Garmin 305 battery to last (though I didn't get round to downloading the route, consequently made a few mistakes and apparently covered 52.5 miles).

Despite the weather, I didn't once get as cold as I did last week on holiday in the mountains near Benidorm in the windier, wetter, colder weather (+hail storm)! Okay, so today I'd lost just about all feeling in my fingers at one point to the stage where getting my gloves and hat out my bumbag would have been nigh on impossible if I'd really needed them anyway

I am right in thinking the BG is less distance, less time, flatter, easier to navigate and just generally not as hard aren't I?

Marvelous day out with a great bunch of folk, except the macho nutters that went ill prepared for the well forecast wet windy and cool conditions (male and female) and again i do not count the relay runners in that.

Conditions were to my liking and i shaved an hour and a quarter off last years time.

But for me the real hero`s were the folk manning the check points so cheerfully i don`t know when the last folk went through but they had a damned long day.

Well done everybody see you there next year may even be a little drier
