With alcohol? :D
[QUOTE=Mountain Goatess;132267]That's the spirit, as Merrylegs would probably say.
Sorry to hear about all your probs. Might be joining you in misery corner as the Injury Fairy visited me last night. Went for a short run, felt nowt but woke up with what feels suspiciously like a bit of a groin strain.
Sorry to hear about all these injuries, particularly those afflicting fellow Ponies.
MG - I don't want to dampen your spirits, but a mate of mine sustained a stress fracture of a bone in his foot doing the 3 Peaks last year, and it wasn't a quick recovery. I understand that 4-6 weeks immobilisation is usually necessary before a stress fracture of a metatarsal heals. It's not worth taking short cuts and finishing up being out for longer. Are you getting professional advice about what to do?
Anyway, bad luck and I hope it mends asap.
Hi TF,
Yeah have seen 2 doctors, one said soft tissue damage, but the other could see a very faint fracture line on my xray. So I guess I was being optimistic about it not being a stress fracture. However it's been a week since I did it and it still hurts. Suppose I've just been hoping it was the first option and it would feel better by now. Been advised not to run for 6 weeks! I can't put any pressure on the front of my foot at the mo so running and cycling is off for now. I suppose I'm in denial and hoping it's going to be back to normal soon. Thought I'd be out running again by now! :(
How is your PF coming along...feeling any better? ;)
MG,
My girlfriend has the same thing, she has had it for about 6 weeks now. It felt better after 4 weeks so she did the Manchester 10k on it. Its now back to being painful again. So I would just give it time and a little bit more time.
Its a real s**t being laid up when the sun is shining and evenings are long. though is'nt it.
Im going to the pool tonight :(
chin up everyone, rest up and you'll get back into it in time, and you'll be really motivated for it again
Oh I'm just totally gutted as I've entered 5 races between now and July. :( Was really looking forward to getting a good time in the Wharfedale as my fitness was improving lots the last few weeks. Also the Lyke Wake race was my main aim for improving last years time but now I won't get the training in needed for that! Will have to find something good to aim for in September I think. :D
Well having been completely crippled on Tuesday and Wedenesday, limping but feeling a little better on Thursday and walking okay by Friday, albeit still with my knee feeling somewhat painful, it was marginally better again today such that I thought I'd try a small 3 mile run..........
I got 100 yards and had to walk - my bastard knee just hurt too much. The knee no longer feels locked when I bend it and I no longer limp, having been driving or sitting down a while. It does hurt like fcuk though if I run and put any weight on it :(. Now Wharfedale looks in jeopardy too.
I'll try again in a couple of days I think.
Don't give in to the pain you said Stolly!!! :D
Sorry to hear your knee's not good... looks like we're both headed for the knackers yard instead of the Wharfedale! I definately won't be there or any other races I had planned for the next 6 weeks! :(
I went to the place that I usually run past all the picnickers today (I usually curse them and call them lazy b*****ds ... but instead I joined them...I had a picnic! Gaymers Pear cider yummy!!! :D
:( oh dear stolly and MG - not good on the knee front.
I'll join in, as I tripped over a tree today and my knee is now rather looking rather red and bruised and stiffening up nicely!! was still able to run on it fine earlier so hopefully nothing serious  although picnicking does sound appealling MG! ;)
Im enjoying filling my saturdays with normal things whilst Im injured. Im planning on decorating my whole house. It just goes to show how much time it takes up.
I was lost a first on the weekends, where usually I would be camping and out running / walking in Lakes.
Went swimming last night, i find it really hard, could only put two lengths of crawl together before taking a breather and doing another two
Im gonna focus on the swimming and improving that and by the time Im up to 40 lengths without stopping, my knee's will be fine for a few miles run.
Thats the plan anyway.
Thanks for asking, MG.
Started running again this week and it's loads better, but I don't feel entirely confident about it yet; it seems to be one of those things that niggles along and can flare up. I'm wary about doing anything very long, or very tough, and I'm especially worried about pounding the foot at faster pace on road. I'm trying a short race tomorrow and then deciding about a whole crop of races coming up, including the Bronte 5 miler (road!) on Thursday, and Wharfedale on Saturday (though I've only entered the half marathon this year, for a change.)
It's really hard to resign yourself to being injured and out of action, isn't it?
Especially as there are always races in the pipeline that we're looking forward to. You build up to them for weeks beforehand and it's hard to accept that you're going to miss them. By definition, we fell/distance runners are tenacious buggers; we don't give anything up easily.
I find it's easier once I've genuinely accepted that I'm injured and stop harbouring crazy ideas of a miraculous recovery that flies in the face of medical science. It's then possible to set a realistic target and find ways of keeping a core fitness ticking over in the meantime.
Best of luck MG.
Any more room in the injured corner please? :)
My knees are still not right and I've not run now for 5weeks. Feet are still very sore from Yoredale too :(
Good luck everyone - as Jamie says first couple of weeks is worst
I notice your last posting was timed at 3.31am, DT.
Are your knees keeping you awake? (Curse that chattering patella...)
Seriously, best wishes for recovery. What's the prognosis?
How's your knee One Hill? Hope you're getting lots of sympathy! ;)
Have you scoffed the well earned trout yet? :D
I'm in Dhaka in Bangladesh working at the moment and currently 5hours ahead hence odd posting time Tussock
I think I need to see someone when I get home as I'm under the impression that I've got what Jamie's got i.e. overuse 'Runner's knee' injury but not certain. I am certain that I've missed a few of my spring faves's Kildwick, Lothersadlae Jack Bloor
Hope you shaken off the PF!
Not fully PF free, but had a trot round the Laycock Gala race this afternoon. The downhill start on tarmac to Goose Eye didn't do the PF any favours...
I'd wondered if you were off on your travels again DT. How long are you away for?
Im just getting over my groin and quad strain, now my right shin is playin up!
raging soar throat , but that dont matter , cause touchwood i think plantar has cleared . everything crossed .
I've not had it nearly as severely as you, and the pf's much better after a month or so. Even managed a short race yesterday.
But it's not completely cleared, so I've got everything crossed too...
Progress :D. I can jog on the spot without my knee hurting! Next up jogging with forward movement .
And I can jog on more than one spot on one leg too. But not the other :(
MG
Tore my calf last year and was out of running for a time, had to be patient, that was the hard part, did the cylce bit and got a mini trampoline on the advice of the physio, it was a good move started running on the spot and it takes all the impact also found it good for core stability work and good for the ankles, try standing on one leg with a moving surface. Keep your chin up and you will soon be back and you can thrash me again in the ppp.
Been to the fracture clinic today. I'm now allowed to load the toe-end of my foot with 25% of my body weight. Pot on for another 3 weeks. Might have to give Ennerdale a miss this year......and Wasdale and Borrowdale and Three Shires and Langdale....etc. etc. Should be getting back out just as the dark nights arrive and the cold, shitty weather starts.
But I'm not bitter
You have my deepest sympathy, Goose fat.
At least you know why you are not able to run and there is a proposed course of treatment/recovery..........hang in there.
(And feel free to rant/wail/vent/abandon your woes on these pages as you travel the road to recovery.)
Anyone with any experience of having bursae (back of knee) drained/injected?
It's going to happen for me on 4/7/8........quite frankly, I'm a bit scared.
Any advice/experience???
Time to resurrect this one for all the hypochondriacs out there.... :(
1. Sprained ankle
2. Getting over a heavy cold <sniff sniff>
As they coincided I'm forced to take a week orf. :(
knee is much better, still a slight "twinge" at the side of it, no running for another week, but i'm going for a nice walk in t' hills tomorrow
OH BUGGER.........I appear to have given myself an ice burn to my (previously slightly) sore knee.
I have to say that I am soooooooooo annoyed with this that I can feel a full on strop coming on!!
I blame it all on having tempted the injury gods:- I have entered a race.
How foolish can you get?
Is it worth crying, or what??
