I wish people who get it in their heads that because someones bumbag looks small that they dont have the correct kit.
Thats just not true

Well said daz; I personally don't like them but those really, really light and flimsy waterproof jackets almost certainly satisfy the most stringent of kit checks but fold up tiny. When it boils down to it in most cases what we're talking about here is waterproof tops and bottoms which, in the scheme of things don't weigh very much anyway. If I stuff just my waterproofs into a bum bag, even my "massively heavy" ones, my drag coefficient probably increases by 0.000000000000000000001%..... and I can live with that![]()
I imagine the difference over a long race would be more than you're suggesting there. Why would people leave things otherwise? And presumably some are, otherwise there'd be no dispute, and no thread!
Btw, I haven't suggested anyone is leaving anything out, but it'd be interesting to hear what prompted Woodzy to post originally.
What amazes me is why people think it should be down to the organiser to do more stringent checks.
Lets have a rule put in place that when you register or collect your number you bring your bumbag, have the contents ready and show thats what your carrying.
This use to happen a fair bit at races and I always through habit carry my bumbag to registration. Mainly so I dont have to go back to the van to fetch it.
Doesnt happen so much now though at races.
Ive said it before but the only thing that gets swapped in my bag is the bloody race map. I carry the correct kit to keep me alive if I fall or get lost.
Is it that difficult.
I see plenty of runners without bumbags in races. I dont see them flying past me, It doesnt bother me, Is it really that big a problem.
The day I start worrying whether so and so has just beat me to the Vet40 prize because he has only carried a black bin liner for a coat and I have lugged a donkey jacket round is the day I give up.
There are more serious issues to look at.
Childrens fell shoes for one, dont get me started.
Quite right Daz, I've had kitchecked people on the skyline and Tanky's and thought they can't have every thing but they do----if a little close to the edge(2 jelly babbies do not pass as "Emergency food")
But when runners don't take any bumbag at all, run in vest and shorts with no map or compass even though it was quite clear that full body kit, M&C was required. When challenged they shrug their shoulders in full view of the RO.
What would you call that? it happens?
some races are understaffed as they are volunteers so a full kitcheck at every race is impossible but the starter could say that numbers of those who have no kit or don't appear to have the kit will be taken at a CP on route and phoned back for a spot check at the end or if obviously no kit straight DISQ
i agree IDP checkpoints can make a note of any runner they notice with no bumbag as they take there race no,
more so on the finish line and DQ em they wont do it again! in all sport if you break rules you get punished simple a level playing field for all and a safer one.
