I know, I should ask them but, I think they're probably busy enough!
If you can I'd take a small hat and a buff, just in case you get caught in some really grim weather. The buff can then mask the bottom of your face whilst the hat can keep your head warm. That said I'm reasonably
sure a buff alone would do as a hat but, if you don't know already, the kit checks for the fellsman are taken uber seriously, to the point of checking fell shoe studds and not accepting space blankets and insisting on survival bags

That's some serious wind chill, especially during the early hours of Sunday morning. Be prepared!

That's what I thought. I've also got a thin polyprop balaclava which takes up very little room, I'll chuck that in as well, should keep the kitcheckers happy. A buff has always passed fellrace kitchecks (such as they are!) but this is something different.

Mark - just read your Weather Forecast forecast.
I've been nearly crying with laughter at my desk !!!
At least the drop out rate will be high, so we can be in the pub for Saturday lunch then !

I use two poles, nordic walking style, all the time for long walks. The improvements they give in terms of stability, hill climbing ability, speed and endurance have made me a total convert.

As you said, very good for testing the depth or solidity of bogs!

If I had a penny for every pole I see strapped to someone's rucksack...

Good luck to all you Fellsman competitors this Saturday because if the weather is anything like it as been on Wednesday night and today in Wharfedale you will need it, lots of rain, wind and mud. I was out training on Great Whernside and Capplestone Gate area last night and it was hard going so good luck everyone.

Latest forecast is heavy rain today and tomorrow, mostly dry on Saturday, then heavy rain again late morning on Sunday.

    Is Moses taking part?

Karen, having seen the picture, please volunteer at base instead and bounce back fit within a few weeks. The camaraderie among the staff and the job satisfaction is as good as running the race. You'll know from my writings in 2010. If you can get yourself to Ingleton to see us off, all the better. There'll be plenty of lift opportunities back to Threshfield afterwards if you need them, either with the organisers or with my friends. Let me know.

    Nick.

    So thurs better
    FRi even more better
    Sat???
If it is any help Karen here is my story from 2007.
SUN - did ankle on final kit test run (suspected fracture by Doctor)
    MON - Xray (no fracture)
TUES - Still could not stand
WED - went to work and limped around
THURS - walking a little better
FRI - could stand one one leg, but began coughing and sneezing
SAT - flu like symptoms and sore ankle but managed 23 hour fellsman running the downs and a lot of early flats, pain stopped at Stonehouse.

It took a hell of a long time to recover though.

All cases are different but I managed it. Probably best not to run though.

    Hope this helps (ish)
