Earlier start than usual (1400 yesterday) and strong SWerlies got the fleet to Caernarfon not far off record times. Then today there has been a strong Werly since early morning - ideal for sailing North - which is now abating and turning Southerly.
The strong winds look to be favouring the larger boats - the two in Whitehaven, Dido and Nunatak, are both 40+ feet.
I think it could be tight leaving Whitehaven amongst the leading three. It's high tide just after 1700 therefore, unless conditions completely drop, White Cloud should be in port in a couple of hours; the runners off the leading two should be back around midnight, which is low tide therefore they will not be leaving immediately. By the time the lock gates open there could be three boats waiting to leave.
