The most critical part might be before that where you have to veer off-path for 1.8 miles to Howden Edge after Back Tor. If you're doing a solo recce, starting from Cutthroat Bridge and working out a route back there might be more useful. I've heard that 20 miles should do it, which is precisely what I did last Saturday from Edale to Cutthroat Bridge and back (just plotted on Tracklogs).

That brings back memories, this exact route used to be a regular training route for me.

Other variations I have done include starting from Ashopton, via Derwent Edge and finish over Birchin Hat, Rowlee pasture and Crookhill Farm. In my opinion one of the best day's out in the Peak, and one I went back to time and again.

The reverse direction from Birchin Clough Bridge on the Snake, via Oyster Clough, and back via Cutgate, Ditch Clough, Alport Farm, Cowms Moor.

Did a variation of this once with Mrs Stagger (I think) from Snake summit and back from Slippery Stones via Lower small Clough, West End Moor, crossed the River Alport at Grindlegrain, over to Oyster Clough, Birchin Clough Bridge then back up the Snake.

And also from Nether Booth, via Jaggers Clough, Hagg Farm, Lockerbrook Heights, Fairholmes, and back via Alport, Upper Ashop and the path beneath Blackley Hey.

    All really great days out

I have space in my car to take an additional 3-4 people from Snake (it will be a bit cramped for 2 people, my 7 seater is not huge). Let me know if interested.
Update - not going to be able to make this tomorrow (not that anyone else had confirmed joining me), so now shifting to Sat 13th. Same offer still applies. Hope to see a few others out there on the day by the sounds of it.

forecast looking iffy possible gusts of 60mph. lets be careful and show some mountain craft

I'll be about on a bit of the route running a hill and navigation assessment for the MR.

I use MWIS, they are some times pessimistic but I find that means I prepare for a worst case scenario and can be pleasantly surprised if its better.

I also look at the MWIS synoptic charts which allows me also to look at trends...that's the sailor in me.
