Yeah, it was a header i dived for it as the defender on the line, swung to clear, played on afterwards as pain wasn't bad, it wasn't until i took my gloves off, well spent 20 minutes trying, that i realised it was worse than i thought.

I jarred my left knew two or three weeks ago when I went on a long trot around the 3 Peaks. My knee has been a little tender since (top rhs of my left knee) but not enough to stop me running, but in the last week or so I've been getting some water on the knee.
Yesterday morning I went for a 5 mile run around the Ingleton Waterfall Walk route fully intending to run at my full on, blistering, short race pace (ie ever, ever so slightly faster than bog standard). Unfortunately my knee was quite swollen at the start and seemed to grow in size as I ran so I found the perfect excuse to just trot round, chilled out and admire the waterfalls.
Like I said, whatever I've done doesn't stop me running but the water on the knee is definitely mother nature telling me something. Is a frozen bag of peas the answer?
Im strugglnig with the same thing Stolly, although not sure its water. More overuse and too much descent after a period of doing very little.
It was not stopping me running, but for every run I needed 3days off afterwards.
I have not run since last wednesday, done nothing really and now it seems to have got worse and hurts when I even walk down the slightest hill.
Physio tommorrow, I will listen to what he says, pay attention and build back up slowly.
Went to the phsyio last night,
I have not done much damage to my knee, just knackered the connective tissue on the outside of my right knee. I still cant run 100metres without pain.
He examined my running technique and said that the top half of my leg rolls inwards and the foot points outwards as I run. He said this along with my long day out on the back of little training has caused the strain.
He has recommended me for Gait analysis and says that orthotics may help. Im very unsure about how these things help when running on the fells. Roads maybe, but on the fells the ground is so random anyway, I never get into a definate running style.
I interested in peoples views on this, do they just want to see the colour of my money?
He told me to rest for about a week, then build up slowly again. Running on the flat, he say I should stay off the hills for about a month. Thats great for fell running.
Cheers

Thats bad news in your BGR prep. re orthotics I have had a pair of relatively cheap (£35) ones since preparing for BG last year as I was getting discomfort on the top of each foot. This hurt hill or road and with the orthotics the problem did stop, so for me it was worth the payment. I had them fitted by a podiatrist who charged £20 for the consultation.
I now have a calf tear my third this year and this will put me out for a couple of weeks. I wonder if a more expensive pair of orthotics may reduce/ prevent the reoccurence of this as it is most certainly due to gait that it occurs.
I have found with my calf that the injury has always occurred on long road runs 18 -20 miles rather than on long fell days which I assume is due to the pace I run being much much slower on the fell?
I have recently seen Nick Dinsdale in Clitheroe, he is well known as a sports injury physio and specialises in orthotics and explains things very well and in depth. I asked about the benifits of orthotics for running on uneven ground and he said that your foot still needs the relevent support in the shoe irrespective of the terrain your shoe is landing on. Also core stabilty exercises with the orthotics in makes a lot more sense than without. They are not a cure all but everything he said made sense and it didn't cost the earth.
Set off for a run this morning, it was gonna be at least 10 miles. 2 miles in, fell over and wrenched my back. Hurt like hell and took my breath away. Tried plodding on, no good, walked back home and had a shower and found a lump up my back passage, think i've got Farmer Giles as well:eek: Going to sulk off to Tesco's for some preparation H. Hope i'm ok for Half Trog next weekend, if i've got in:(
That's too much science for me :). I find if I just carry on running, maybe taking a bit of extra care, maybe using frozen pea treatment or deep heat prior to the run, making sure I do thorough warm ups and maybe wearing an ankle or knee support if it feels like it helps, it all ends up okay in the end
My right ankle for instance has been high maintenance for ages now, although its surprisingly got better just recently maybe because i've got a new injury (my left knee) to take my mind off of it. Often the mere act of putting on my running gear and tying up my shoe laces makes a leg I was limping on recover, if only for the run itself, with it going lame again on me almost as soon as the run's over.
I struggled with my left knee for three months last year and my right ankle most of the time and, apart from the pain and trouble hobbling down stairs first thing each morning, I'm fine..............
Very sore hip right side(bum) and tight hamstring plus lower back not run for three weeks. :(
What a difference a week makes, after falling over last sunday and feeling like i'd borrowed Quasimodo's back, it has eased throughout the week, to the point were i totally forgot about it at the Half Trog today. Must be all that Strongbow i've been troughing:eek: Still got them, oops, too much information david Super Moderator;) I now declare myself injury free, until tomorrow that is:D
Started back training about a month ago after a long long rest away from running only to find myself booking an appointment at the local physiotherapist. How long should it take to get back to racing fitness from a long period of rest?
Foot aches underneath especially when training on roads, have been training on the fells and only got a few pains, should I continue training and hope it clears up?
Just had my cast off my broken arm so I'm officially not injured anymore. Phsyio reckons its 12 weeks before my arm could realistically take a fall, so 7 weeks, I think Spelga is 6 weeks off, so I'll be fine for that now for sure. Will probably do Ras Yr Aran and Edale Skyline as well. But will stick to hilly road races for the next 3 weekends.
My ankle and lower leg is giving me grief again, after 6 months of it in the other leg.
I'm just starting to get some fitness back, I've been taking it slowly and have built it back up to 30 miles. I've managed 2 weeks at 30 miles now and then this..
Why am I so injury prone? It seems that if I do more than 20 miles a week my body starts to fall apart.
You are NOT alone Hopey!!
I'm chasing pain and misery around my body endlessly.
Current theory is that my "hamstring" is now a meniscal (cartilage) problem in my knee and MAY warrant a trip to see the surgeon........is there life after an arthroscopy??
Any experiences welcomed!
I've had 4 arthroscopies, one on my right and three on my left.As long as you don't rush back too soon, you should be fine.My problem was playing football 9days after having my one done which led to another.Experienced discomfort for a while but once they settle they are back to normal.(quit football as well):)
I'm only 28 mind and have already purchased some sticks to assist my 60 year old arthiritic hobble !:D
Unlucky Adrian,
I find with ankles that its best to keep them moving.
Not an injury as such but I had an appendectomy on Monday at about 12pm! It was a laparascopic one so I've not had a lot of pain - swellings almost gone as well. Might go for a jog tomorrow! Gulp! :D
Back from 3 hours in A & E as advised by physio after seeing ankle injury from HPM. They x-rayed and are not sure but I may have fractured my ankle along with significant trauma to the ligaments as the doc said. They reckon my ligaments could have pulled a bit of bone away from my ankle.
Off to see a specialist with x-rays in hand to get a final decision on Wednesday. Narrowly avoided a pot on my leg as I was able to hobble along with only a slight grimace.
Thats spring knackered then. Roll on June
Suddenly my niggly achillies doesn't seem so bad!
Bad luck Tony, sounds a bad one.
Well back from the Orthopedic department and I now have an air boot on there for the next 4 weeks minimum. Also a fair bit of physio booked.

Nothing broken but he said my ankle was "battle scarred" whilst he pointed out fragments of bone in it from previous injuries. I also have a mis-shapen ankle from untreated breaks which has healed in a strange way but is still full function if a little un-orthodox.
Haven't really took a significant hammering on it since teenage years and basketball days but must have had bits of floating bones and breaks in there since then.
So longer than I though before I am back. Also means no biking in the mean time. Specialist warned that if I do come back too fast it may knacker my ankles permanently and require either to stop running or surgery so will be following the instructions to the letter.
 :(
thats a real shame anthony, hope it gets better soon pal.
how are you going to keep your self sane?
I was thinking the look I was going for was more robocop meets storm trooper.;) I do not have merrylegs at the moment but have being using the term ball bags a fair bit recently.
Yes being injured sucks but just put positive spin on things and it always seems better. Stretching, weights for upper body all that kind of stuff I can never really be bothered with should keep me out of mischief. I am a fast healer and as it is a removable robo leg I can work on propreception from next week so could be worse. Feel like I am about to break into song but I will leave it to the pro's

Daleside, think it i more a question of who cracks first, me or the wife who has to put up with me? My money would be on the wife as I never tire of my own whining.
Fleeter, know you had even longer term stuff as well. Can imagine it makes you appreciate your running in the hills more when you come back to it?
Tough luck Anthony - hope you're back running soon.
What a beautiful day, I thought I'd do some gardening before heading for the Trunce. Bad Move.
Pulled something in my back and now I can hardly move. Hurts like hell and is making me feel sick. No lumps sticking out so fingers crossed it's just a pulled/torn Muscle.
Bad news Ian, hope its nothing serious.
i was 8 miles out today, enjoying the sunshine and bombing downhill when i went right over on my left ankle. Bit of a crunch, so stamped on it a few times, felt okay so finished the last 6 miles albeit at slighly slower pace. Surprisingly enough its a bit sore now!
I blame it on wearing my walshes after having spent all winter running in mudclaws!
Ian get yourslef to dr's n get some valium, brill for back spasm and also removes all fear on steep descents! seriously getting rid of the spasm gets shot of most of the pain. hope you feel better soon
Don't know about the Valium! I'd be falling asleep and don't really want to start taking antidepressants either, esp one that is adictive.
The MR use Diazepam and if any one thinks they are going to medicate me (rubber glove or not) had better watch out.....;) :D
I've been taking Ibuprophen and that has been doing the trick. It's still sore and bending down is tricky and painful but yesterdays slow run made it abit easier.
Going out shortly for another slightly longer run.
Thanks for the concern
Diazepam is the generic name for Valium and it's a tranquilliser not an anti- depressant ie it tranquils muscles as well as moods. Just a point of information.
Hey glad its not too bad! Was getting quite busy in here.
Mine I reckon is coming along a treat although now has gone very stiff because of the cast. Off to physio and the orthopedic specialist again next week. Once seen the specialist I will go to a proper sports physio and see what they say.
Oh and the joys of the NHS physio have to be heard to be believed. She wants to try to recreate the conditions when I hurt my ankle. Now bear in mind the High Peaks Marathon was where I did it I am dreading this! Can just see me paddling around in a bath of mud and ice cubes whilst she turns the lights off in the room??
